Me permito llamar su atención sobre
la lectura diaria del Evangelio

Esta invitación quiere compartir contigo la alegría
del Evangelio. Todos, sin excepción,
puede experimentar esa alegría abriendo su corazón
al poder sanador de la palabra de Dios.

Disponible todos los días.

Consideration
Nuestro mundo es viejo. Por todas partes nos enfrentamos a problemas de contaminación. El aire, el agua, el suelo, etc., están agotados. Quizá sea precisamente por eso por lo que podemos soñar con un mundo nuevo. ¿Hemos olvidado nuestro lugar en la creación? A menudo no nos hemos tomado en serio nuestra misión en la creación. Por eso suenan gritos de auxilio. Nos invitan a reflexionar y deben convertirse en oración. En Jesús irrumpe plenamente la nueva creación. Donde Él habla hay vida nueva.

 

PRIMERA LECTURA               Is 65,17-21

El sonido del llanto, el sonido del grito no se vuelven a oír.

Del profeta Isaías

Así habla el Señor:
“En aquellos días voy a crear
un cielo nuevo
y una tierra nueva.
“Lo que ha sido antes
ya no será pensado
y no entrará más en el corazón
sino que os deleitaréis y regocijaréis
siempre adelante, por lo que entonces yo cree.
“Porque yo hago de Jerusalén una delicia
y gloria de su pueblo.
“Me deleitaré por amor de Jerusalén
y me deleitaré en mi pueblo.
“El sonido del llanto, el sonido del llanto
nunca más se oirán allí.
“No habrá allí más niño
que muera a los pocos días,
y no habrá más barba gris
que no llene sus días.
“Porque uno muere allí joven,
aunque viva cien años,
y quien no llegue a los cien,
será un maldito.
“Entonces construyen casas y habitan en ellas,
plantan viñas y comen su fruto”.
Así habla el Señor Todopoderoso.

A ti te alabaré, Señor, porque me has librado,
no has dejado triunfar a mis enemigos.

y dad gracias a Su Nombre, que es muy exaltado.
Su ira dura poco, pero Su misericordia toda la vida,
la tarde trae llanto, la mañana alegría.

Vete, tu hijo vive.

Del santo evangelio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo según
Juan

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dejó Samaría y se fue a Galilea.
Él mismo había declarado
que un profeta no es tenido en estima en su propia ciudad paterna.
Pero cuando llegó a Galilea
los galileos lo recibieron con benevolencia,
porque habían visto todo
lo que había hecho en Jerusalén en la fiesta.
Después de todo, ellos también habían estado en la fiesta.
Vino, pues, de nuevo a Caná de Galilea
donde había convertido el agua en vino.
Había allí un funcionario real
cuyo hijo estaba enfermo en Cafarnaúm.
Cuando se enteró de que Jesús había venido de Judea a Galilea
fue a verle y le rogó
que viniera con Él a curar a su hijo,
pues éste se estaba muriendo.
“Si no veis señales milagrosas ,
– le dijo Jesús-
entonces no crees”.
En eso, el funcionario de la corte dijo :
“Señor, ven
antes de que muera mi hijo”.
Jesús respondió :
“Vete, tu hijo vive”.
El hombre creyó lo que Jesús le decía y se fue.
Sus criados le salieron al encuentro por el camino
con el mensaje de que su hijo estaba vivo.
Les preguntó la hora en que se había curado
y ellos le dijeron :
“Ayer, a la hora séptima, se le pasó la fiebre”.
Entonces el padre se dio cuenta
que había sucedido justo a la hora en que Jesús había dicho :
Tu hijo vive.
Él mismo y toda su familia creyeron.

Esta segunda señal la hizo Jesús
después de haber venido de Judea a Galilea.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común
223. En libertad y conscientemente vivida la sobriedad es liberadora. No es vivir menos, no es vivir con poca intensidad, sino todo lo contrario. Quienes disfrutan más de cada momento y lo viven mejor son los que dejan de recoger algo aquí y allá, de buscar siempre lo que no tienen, y experimentan lo que significa apreciar a cada persona y cada cosa, aprenden a familiarizarse con las realidades más sencillas y saben disfrutarlas. De este modo, consiguen limitar las necesidades insatisfechas y reducir el cansancio y la ansiedad. Se puede necesitar poco y vivir intensamente, sobre todo cuando se es capaz de dejar espacio a otros placeres y se encuentra satisfacción en el encuentro fraterno, en el servicio, en el aprovechamiento pleno del propio carisma, en la música y el arte, en el contacto con la naturaleza, en la oración. La felicidad exige saber limitar algunas necesidades que nos hacen volver la cabeza, pues así nos mantenemos disponibles para las múltiples oportunidades que ofrece la vida.

Consideration
Our world is old. Everywhere we face pollution problems. Air, water, soil, and so on, they are depleted. Perhaps that is precisely why we can dream of a new world. Have we forgotten our place in creation? Our mission in creation has often not been taken seriously. That is why cries for help sound. They invite us to reflect and should be turned into a prayer. In Jesus, the new creation breaks forth in full. Where He speaks there is new life!

 

FIRST READING              Isa 65:17-21

The sound of weeping, the sound of crying are never heard again.

From the Prophet Isaiah

Thus speaks the Lord :
“In those days I am going to create
a new heaven
and a new earth.
“What has been before
will no longer be thought of
And it comes no more into the heart,
but ye shall delight and rejoice
always on, for what I then create.
“For I make Jerusalem a delight
and a glory of its people.
“I will delight for Jerusalem’s sake
And delight in My people.
“The sound of weeping, the sound of crying
will never be heard there again.
“There shall be no more child there,
who dies after a few days,
and there shall be no more greybeard

the Galileans received Him benevolently,
because they had seen all
what He had done at Jerusalem at the feast.
After all, they themselves had also been at the feast.
So He came again to Cana in Galilee
where He had turned water into wine.
There was a royal official there
whose son lay ill in Capernaum.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee
he went to Him and besought Him
that He would come with Him to heal his son,
for this one was dying.
“If ye see no miracle signs ,
– said Jesus to him –
then thou believest not.”
At that, the court official said :
“Lord, do come
before my child dies !”
Jesus replied :
“Go, thy son liveth.”
The man believed what Jesus told him and went away.
His servants were already meeting him on the way
with the message that his child was alive.
He asked them the hour when he got better
and they told him :
“Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever passed from him.”
Then the father realised
that it had happened just at the hour when Jesus had said :
Your son lives.
He himself and all his family believed.

This second sign Jesus did
after He had come from Judea to Galilee.

On caring for the common home

223. In freedom and consciously lived sobriety is liberating. It is not less living, it is not low intensity, but totally the opposite. Those who enjoy every moment more and live it better are those who stop picking up something here and there, always looking for what they don’t have, and experience what it means to appreciate every person and every thing, learn to become familiar with the simplest realities and know how to enjoy them. In this way, they manage to limit unmet needs and reduce fatigue and anxiety. One can need little and live intensely, especially when one is able to leave room for other pleasures and finds satisfaction in fraternal encounters, service, in making full use of one’s own charisma, in music and art, in contact with nature, in prayer. Happiness requires knowing how to limit some needs that make us turn our heads, as this keeps us available for the manifold opportunities that life offers.

Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Elke dag ter beschikking

Openingswoord
Doorheen het paars van de boete
breekt vandaag een beetje licht.
We mogen ons reeds verheugen
om het licht dat in de wereld komt.
Laten we ons hart openen
en de duisternis niet langer beminnen.
Laten we uitzien naar het licht dat God ons brengt
en ons helemaal laten doordringen
van zijn reddende nabijheid
in Jezus, zijn eniggeboren Zoon.

 

EERSTE LEZING                  2 Kron. 36, 14-16.19-23

De toorn en het medelijden van de Heer worden duidelijk
door de ballingschap en de bevrijding van het volk.

Uit het tweede Boek Kronieken

In die dagen maakten al de voornaamsten en het volk
zich herhaaldelijk schuldig aan de gruweldaden van de heidenen
en ontheiligden de tempel van Jeruzalem
die aan de Heer gewijd was.
En de Heer, de God van hun voorvaderen,
stuurde almaar gezanten naar hun toe,
want Hij had medelijden met zijn volk en met zijn woning.
Maar zij verachtten Gods gezanten,
spotten met hun boodschap
en maakten zich vrolijk over de profeten
zodat tenslotte de toorn van de Heer
wel genadeloos moest losbarsten over het volk.
De koning van de Chaldeeën liet de tempel in brand steken
en de muur van Jeruzalem afbreken
en alle paleizen liet hij platbranden
zodat alle kostbaarheden verloren gingen.
Allen die aan het zwaard ontkomen waren,
liet hij in ballingschap wegvoeren naar Babel
waar zij hem en zijn zonen als slaven moesten dienen
tot het Perzische rijk aan de macht kwam.
Zo ging de voorspelling in vervulling
die de Heer bij monde van Jeremia gedaan had:
“Zolang het land zijn sabbatjaren niet vergoed gekregen heeft,
zal het braak blijven liggen: zeventig jaar lang.”

In het eerste regeringsjaar van Cyrus, de koning van Perzië,
ging de voorspelling in vervulling
die de Heer bij monde van Jeremia gedaan had:
de Heer wekte de geest op van Cyrus, de koning van Perzië.
Deze liet in heel zijn koninkrijk
de volgende boodschap afkondigen
en ook schriftelijk verspreiden:
“Zo spreekt Cyrus, de koning van Perzië:
De Heer, de God van de hemel,
heeft mij alle koninkrijken van de aarde geschonken.
Hij heeft mij opgedragen
voor Hem te Jeruzalem in Juda een tempel te bouwen:
laten allen onder u die tot het volk van de Heer behoren,
onder de hoede van de Heer, hun God,
terugkeren naar Jeruzalem.”

Palabra de apertura
A través de la púrpura de la penitencia
rompe hoy un poco de luz.
Ya podemos alegrarnos
por la luz que viene al mundo.
Abramos nuestros corazones
y dejemos de amar las tinieblas.
Esperemos la luz que Dios nos trae
y dejémonos imbuir plenamente
de su cercanía salvadora
en Jesús, su Hijo unigénito.

 

PRIMERA LECTURA                  2 Crón. 36, 14-16,19-23

La ira y la compasión del Señor se manifiestan
a través del exilio y la liberación del pueblo.

Del segundo libro de las Crónicas

En aquellos días, toda la gente distinguida y el pueblo
fueron repetidamente culpables de las abominaciones de los paganos
y profanaron el templo de Jerusalén
que estaba dedicado al Señor.
Y el Señor, el Dios de sus antepasados
les enviaba enviados todo el tiempo,
porque tenía compasión de su pueblo y de su morada.
Pero ellos despreciaban a los enviados de Dios,
se burlaron de su mensaje
y se burlaron de los profetas
de modo que finalmente la ira del Señor
tuvo que estallar sin piedad sobre el pueblo.
El rey de los caldeos hizo incendiar el templo
y derribó la muralla de Jerusalén
y quemó todos los palacios
de modo que todos los objetos de valor se perdieron.
A todos los que habían escapado de la espada
los envió al exilio en Babilonia
donde tuvieron que servirle a él y a sus hijos como esclavos
hasta que el imperio persa llegó al poder.
Así se cumplió la profecía
que el Señor había hecho a través de Jeremías:
“Mientras la tierra no haya cumplido sus años sabáticos ,
permanecerá en barbecho: durante setenta años”.

En el primer año de reinado de Ciro, rey de Persia,
se cumplió la profecía
que el Señor había hecho a través de Jeremías:
el Señor levantó el espíritu de Ciro, rey de Persia.
Éste hizo proclamar por todo su reino el siguiente mensaje
hizo proclamar el siguiente mensaje
y también lo difundió por escrito:
“Así habla Ciro, rey de Persia:
El Señor, Dios del cielo ,
me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra.
Me ha encargado
construirle un templo en Jerusalén, en Judá:
Que todos los que pertenezcan al pueblo del Señor,
bajo el cuidado del Señor, su Dios,
regresen a Jerusalén”.

Que se me quede la lengua en la boca
Cuando no piense más en ti

Nos sentamos junto a los arroyos de Babilonia y lloramos,

debemos a su gracia nuestra salvación.

De la carta del santo apóstol Pablo a los cristianos de Éfeso

Hermanos y hermanas,

Dios, que es rico en misericordia
por el gran amor con que nos amó,
nos resucitó a la vida con Cristo,
aunque estábamos muertos en nuestros pecados;
A su gracia debéis vuestra salvación.
Y nos ha resucitado juntamente con él
y nos sentó en los cielos, en Cristo Jesús,
para que los siglos venideros conozcan
las abundantes riquezas de su gracia
por su bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús.

Sí, a esa gracia debéis vuestra salvación, mediante la fe;
no a vosotros mismos: es un don de Dios;
no a vuestros logros; nadie debe albergar fe.
La obra de Dios somos nosotros,
creados en Cristo Jesús
para realizar en nuestra vida las buenas obras
que Dios ya ha preparado para nosotros.

del unigénito Hijo de Dios.

“En esto consiste el juicio:
la luz ha venido al mundo
pero los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz
porque sus obras eran malas.
“Todo el que obra impíamente se disgusta con la luz
y no va hacia la luz
por miedo a que se hagan públicas sus obras.
“Pero el que obra la verdad va hacia la luz
para que se vea que sus obras están hechas en Dios”.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común

Alegría y paz

222. La espiritualidad cristiana propone un modo diferente de entender la calidad de vida y anima a un estilo de vida profético y contemplativo, capaz de conocer la alegría profunda sin obsesionarse por el consumo. Es importante seguir una antigua enseñanza presente en varias tradiciones religiosas y también en la Biblia. Se trata de la creencia de que “menos es más”. En efecto, la acumulación constante de oportunidades para consumir distrae el corazón y le impide apreciar cada cosa y cada momento. Por el contrario, afrontar con serenidad cada realidad, por pequeña que sea, nos abre más posibilidades de comprensión y realización personal. La espiritualidad cristiana implica un crecimiento en la sobriedad y en la capacidad de disfrutar con poco. Es una vuelta a la sencillez que nos permite detenernos a disfrutar de las pequeñas cosas, a dar gracias por las oportunidades que nos ofrece la vida, sin apegarnos a lo que tenemos, ni entristecernos por lo que no poseemos. Para ello hay que evitar la dinámica del dominio y la mera acumulación de placeres.

We may already rejoice
for the light coming into the world.
Let us open our hearts
and love the darkness no longer.
Let us look forward to the light that God brings to us
and let ourselves be fully imbued
of his saving nearness
in Jesus, his only-begotten Son.

 

FIRST READING                    2 Chron. 36, 14-16,19-23

The Lord’s wrath and compassion are made clear
through the exile and deliverance of the people.

From the second Book of Chronicles

In those days, all the distinguished people and the people
were repeatedly guilty of the abominations of the pagans
and profaned the temple of Jerusalem
which was dedicated to the Lord.
And the Lord, the God of their forefathers,
sent envoys to them all the time,
for He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling.
But they despised God’s envoys,
mocked their message
and made fun of the prophets
so that finally the wrath of the Lord
did have to erupt mercilessly on the people.
The king of the Chaldeans had the temple set on fire
and tear down the wall of Jerusalem
and all the palaces he had burnt down
so that all the valuables were lost.
All those who had escaped the sword,
he sent them into exile in Babylon
where they had to serve him and his sons as slaves
until the Persian empire came to power.
Thus was fulfilled the prophecy
which the Lord had made through Jeremiah:
“As long as the land has not had its sabbatical years repaid ,
it will remain fallow: for seventy years.”

In the first year of reign of Cyrus, king of Persia,
the prophecy was fulfilled
which the Lord had made through Jeremiah:
the Lord raised the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia.
The latter had the following message proclaimed throughout his kingdom

and also spread it in writing:
“Thus speaks Cyrus, the king of Persia:
The Lord, the God of heaven ,
hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth.
He has commissioned me
to build for Him a temple at Jerusalem in Judah:

return to Jerusalem.”

Joy and peace

222. Christian spirituality proposes a different way of understanding quality of life and encourages a style of prophetic and contemplative living capable of knowing deep joy without being obsessed by consumption. It is important to follow up on an ancient teaching present in various religious traditions and also in the Bible. It concerns the belief that “less is more”. Indeed, the constant accumulation of opportunities to consume distracts the heart and prevents it from appreciating every thing and every moment. In contrast, quietly facing every reality, however small, opens up more possibilities for understanding and personal realisation for us. Christian spirituality implies a growth in sobriety and an ability to enjoy with little. It is a return to simplicity that allows us to pause to enjoy the little things, to give thanks for the opportunities that life offers, without becoming attached to what we have, or sad for what we do not possess. This requires avoiding the dynamics of domination and sheer accumulation of pleasures.

Amar a Dios y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo está por encima de cualquier incendio y siniestro. Así hablaba ayer el Escriba. Todos los textos de hoy continúan ese pensamiento, que debe regir nuestro ayuno. Oseas dice: “Piedad quiero, no sacrificios, y amor a Dios más que holocaustos”. El famoso salmo 51 continúa diciendo: “Lo que sacrifico, Dios, es mi penitencia; un corazón aplastado y humillado no rechazas”. El Evangelio lo ilustra en la actitud del recaudador de impuestos: “Dios, ten piedad de mí, pecador”. Es nuestra confesión de culpa, cada día. Kyrie, eleison.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común

221. Varias convicciones de nuestra fe, desarrolladas al comienzo de esta encíclica, contribuyen a enriquecer el sentido de esta conversión, como la conciencia de que toda criatura refleja algo de Dios y tiene un mensaje que transmitirnos, o la certeza de que Cristo ha acogido en sí este mundo material y ahora, resucitado, habita en lo más íntimo de cada criatura, rodeándola con su afecto y penetrándola con su luz. Así como el reconocimiento de que Dios ha creado el mundo y ha inscrito en él un orden y un dinamismo que el ser humano no tiene derecho a ignorar. Cuando leemos en el Evangelio que Jesús habla de los pájaros y dice que “ciertamente Dios no se olvida de ninguno de ellos” (Lc 12,6) , ¿seremos capaces de tratarlos mal y hacerles daño? Invito a todos los cristianos a explicitar esta dimensión de su propia conversión, haciendo patente que la fuerza y la luz de la gracia recibida se extiende a su relación con las demás criaturas y con el mundo que les rodea, estableciendo la excelsa fraternidad con toda la creación que San Francisco de Asís vivió de manera tan luminosa.

Consideration

To love God and to love one’s neighbour as oneself is above all fire and disaster. So spoke the Scribe yesterday. All of today’s texts continue that thought, which should govern our fasting. Hosea says: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and love of God more than burnt offerings”. The famous Psalm 51 goes on to say: “What I sacrifice, God, is my penance; a crushed and humbled heart you do not reject”. The Gospel illustrates it in the attitude of the tax collector: “God, have mercy on me a sinner”. It is our confession of guilt, every day. Kyrie, eleison.

On Care for the Common Home

221. Several convictions of our faith, developed at the beginning of this encyclical, contribute to enriching the meaning of this conversion, such as the awareness that every creature reflects something of God and has a message to convey to us, or the certainty that Christ has taken this material world into himself and now, risen, dwells in the innermost being of every creature, surrounding it with his affection and penetrating it with his light. As well as the recognition that God has created the world and has inscribed in it an order and a dynamism that human beings have no right to ignore. When we read in the Gospel that Jesus speaks of the birds and says that “God certainly does not forget any of them” (Lk 12,6), are we capable of treating them badly and harming them? I invite all Christians to make this dimension of their own conversion explicit, making it clear that the strength and light of the grace they have received extends to their relationship with other creatures and with the world around them, establishing the exalted fraternity with all creation that St. Francis of Assisi lived so luminously.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común

220. Esta conversión implica varias actitudes que van juntas para iniciar un cuidado generoso y amoroso. En primer lugar, implica gratitud y desinterés, es decir, un reconocimiento del mundo como don recibido del amor del Padre, reconocimiento que trae como consecuencia una disposición desinteresada a la renuncia y a los gestos generosos, aunque nadie los vea o los reconozca: “Que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace tu derecha… y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará” (Mt 6, 3-4) . Implica también la conciencia amorosa de que uno no está separado de las demás criaturas, sino que forma una magnífica comunión universal con los demás seres del universo. Para un creyente, uno no mira el mundo desde fuera, sino desde dentro, reconociendo los lazos por los que el Padre nos ha unido a todos los seres. Además, como la conversión ecológica hace crecer las capacidades especiales que Dios ha dado a cada creyente, le lleva a desarrollar su creatividad y entusiasmo para resolver los dramas del mundo, ofreciéndose a Dios “como sacrificio vivo y santo” (Rom. 12, 1) . Interpreta su propia superioridad no como un motivo de gloria personal o de dominio irresponsable, sino como una capacidad más que le impone a su vez una pesada responsabilidad derivada de su fe.

Consideration
When some Christians pay attention only to God and neglect their neighbour, they must be scrapping half the gospel. But right now, the pendulum is swinging in the other direction. People often identify Christianity with love and attention to neighbour and rarely talk about God. Our task is to hold these two poles and never separate them. Then we too will not be far from the Kingdom of God.

We shall never again say to the creation of our hands : Thou art our God !

“Repent, Israel, unto the Lord thy God ,

Then the scribe said to Him :
“Right Master, rightly thou hast said :
He is the only One and there is no other besides Him ;
and love Him with all his heart,
all his mind and all his strength
and love thy neighbour as thyself
that is above all fire and casualties.”
Seeing that Jesus had spoken wisely, He told him :
“Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.”
And no one dared to ask Him another question.

On caring for the common home

220. This conversion involves several attitudes that go together to initiate generous and loving care. In the first place, it implies gratitude and disinterestedness, that is, a recognition of the world as a gift received from the Father’s love, a recognition that brings as a consequence a disinterested willingness to renounce and generous gestures, even if no one sees or acknowledges them: “Let not your left hand know what your right hand does … and your Father who sees in secret will repay it to you” (Mt 6:3-4) . It also implies the loving awareness that one is not separate from other creatures, but forms a magnificent universal communion with the other beings of the universe. For a believer, one does not look at the world from outside, but from within, recognising the bonds by which the Father has united us with all beings. Moreover, because ecological conversion grows the special capacities God has given each believer, it leads him to develop his creativity and enthusiasm to solve the world’s dramas, offering himself to God “as a living, holy sacrifice” (Rom. 12, 1) . He interprets his own superiority not as a reason for personal glory or irresponsible domination, but as another capacity that in turn imposes on him a heavy responsibility stemming from his faith.

Uitnodiging

Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Iedere dag beschikbaar.

Overweging
Luister heden naar de stem van de Heer en wees niet halsstarrig. Zo klinkt het refrein van de antwoordpsalm. Die psalm verwijst in de eerste plaats naar de woestijn en naar de onwil van het volk. Dit thema kenmerkt niet alleen de woestijntocht, maar wordt telkens overgenomen door de profeten zoals vandaag Jeremia: ‘Ze blijven hardnekkig in de boosheid.’ Herhaaldelijk neemt Jezus dit verwijt over. Men luistert niet, men ziet de tekens niet, men staat niet open. Het liturgische ‘heden’ richt deze vraag ook tot ons. Sta ik open voor de inspraken van Gods Geest ?

 

EERSTE  LEZING                     Jer. 7, 23-28
Dit is een volk dat niet wil luisteren naar de Heer, zijn God.

Uit de Profeet Jeremia

Zo spreekt de Heer :
“Dit alleen heb Ik hen bevolen :
Luistert naar Mij, dan zal Ik uw God zijn
en gij zult mijn volk zijn.
“Volgt de weg die Ik u wijs,
dan zal het u goed gaan.
“Maar ze hebben niet geluisterd en Mij niet gehoorzaamd.
“Ze blijven hardnekkig in de boosheid.
“Hoe langer hoe meer keerden ze zich van Mij af.
“Sinds de uittocht van uw voorvaderen uit Egypte,
tot heden toe,
heb Ik u mijn dienaren de profeten gezonden, telkens weer.
“Maar ze hebben niet naar Mij geluisterd
en Mij niet gehoorzaamd.
“Ze bleven hardnekkig, meer nog dan hun voorvaderen.
roep het hun toe, antwoorden zullen ze niet.
“Dan moet ge tegen hen zeggen :
Hier is nu het volk
dat niet wil luisteren naar de Heer, zijn God,
dat zich niet laat beleren.
“Weg is de oprechtheid,
ze komt niet meer over hun lippen.”

TUSSENZANG                   Ps. 95(94), 1-2, 6-7, 8-9

Luistert heden naar de stem van de Heer
en weest niet halsstarrig.

Komt, laat ons de Heer met gejubel begroeten,
juichen wij toe de Rots van ons heil.
Laat ons verschijnen voor Hem met een lofzang,
Hem met liederen eren.

Komt, laat ons aanbiddend ter aarde vallen,
neerknielen voor Hem die ons schiep.
Hij is onze God en wij zijn volk,
Hij is de herder en wij zijn kudde.

Luistert heden dan naar zijn stem :
weest niet halsstarrig als eens in Meriba,
zoals in Massa in de woestijn ;
waar uw vaderen Mij wilden tarten
ofschoon zij mijn daden hadden gezien.

Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens Lucas

Eens dreef Jezus een duivel uit die stom was.
Zodra de duivel was uitgevaren, kon de stomme weer spreken.
De mensen stonden er verbaasd van.
Maar enkelen van hen zeiden :
“Door Beëlzebub, de vorst der duivels drijft Hij de duivels uit.”
Anderen – om Hem op de proef te stellen –
verlangden van Hem een teken uit de hemel.
Maar Hij kende hun gedachten en sprak tot hen :
“Elk rijk dat innerlijk verdeeld is vervalt tot een woestenij ;
het ene huis valt op het andere.
“Als nu ook de satan met zichzelf in strijd is,
hoe kan zijn rijk dan standhouden ?
“Ge zegt immers dat Ik door Beëlzebub de duivels uitdrijf.
“Als Ik door Beëlzebub de duivels uitdrijf,
door wie drijven uw zonen ze dan uit ?
“Daarom zullen zij uw rechters zijn.
“Maar als Ik door de vinger Gods de duivels uitdrijf,
dan is inderdaad het Rijk Gods tot u gekomen.
Wanneer een sterke, welbewapend, zijn huis en hof bewaakt,
is zijn bezit veilig.
“Komt er echter iemand die sterker is dan hij en die hem overwint,
dan rooft deze zijn volle uitrusting,
waarop hij zijn vertrouwen stelde,
en verdeelt wat hij bezit als buit.
“Wie niet met Mij is is tegen Mij,
en wie niet met Mij bijeenbrengt, die verstrooit.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis

219. Het is echter niet voldoende dat ieder zich betert om een zo complexe situatie als die waarmee de huidige wereld wordt geconfronteerd, onder ogen ziet, op te lossen. De individuen afzonderlijk kunnen het vermogen en de vrijheid om de logica van de instrumentele rede verliezen en uiteindelijk bezwijken voor een consumptisme zonder ethiek en zonder zin voor de maatschappij en het milieu. Op maatschappelijke problemen moet men antwoorden met communicatienetwerken, niet met de pure som van individuele goede daden: “De eisen van dit werk zullen zo immens zijn dat de mogelijkheden van persoonlijke initiatieven en de samenwerking van individualistisch gevormde individuen niet in staat zullen zijn hieraan te beantwoorden. Er zal een bundeling van krachten en een eenheid van bijdragen noodzakelijk zijn”. Een ecologische bekering die vereist is om een dynamiek van een duurzame verandering te weeg te brengen, is ook een gemeenschappelijke verandering.
