Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
OPENING WORD
In every Eucharist
we address our prayers to the Lord
and invoke Him from our littleness.
He is like a Father who listens to our cries,
even though our prayer may not be so perfect
and our life is not so exemplary.
God sent his Son,
to bring deliverance through his death and resurrection.
He, the living Lord, is present in our midst.
We call on Him and pray for His mercy.
FIRST READING Sir. 35, 15b-17.20-22a
The poor man’s prayer penetrates the clouds.
The Lord is a judge,
and with Him there is no regard for persons;
He takes no bribes at the expense of the poor ,
but listens to the plea of the oppressed.
He does not reject the sighing of the orphan,
nor of the widow when she keeps complaining.
He who assists others is well received,
and his prayer lifts up to the clouds.
The prayer of the poor penetrates the clouds,
as long as it does not reach its goal, it does not rest;
it does not desist, until the Most High has mercy,
and the Righteous delivers judgment and justice.
Answer Psalm Ps 34(33) 2-3, 17-18, 19 and 23
Refrain
Who cry out in distress, to them the Lord listens.
The Lord I will praise every day,
his praise is always on my lips.
My spirit is proud of the Lord’s favour,
let every one who hears it rejoice.
From evildoers He turns His face away,
they are forgotten on earth.
To the pious who cry out, the Lord listens
and rescues them from every need.
The Lord is near to grieving hearts,
He helps those who acknowledge their guilt.
The Lord saves the lives of those who serve Him,
all who flee to Him face no punishment.
SECOND READING 2 Tim. 4, 6-8.16-18
Now the crown of righteousness awaits me.
From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy
Dear one,
As for me,
my blood is soon to be shed,
the hour of my passing is at hand.
I have fought the good fight,
finished the race,
kept the faith.
Now the crown of righteousness awaits me
with which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will reward me on the great day, and not only me
but all who look forward with love to His coming.
At my first defence, no one stood by me,
all abandoned me.
May they not be blamed.
But the Lord has stood by me and given me strength
to fulfil my ministry as a preacher of the gospel
to the end,
so that all nations might hear of it.
And I was delivered from the maw of the lion.
The Lord will continue to protect me from all evil attacks
and bring me over preserved to his heavenly kingdom.
To Him be the glory throughout the ages!
Amen.
Verse for the gospel 2 Cor. 5,19
Alleluia.
God in Christ has reconciled the world to himself
and He gave us the message of reconciliation.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Lk 18:9-14
The tax collector went home justified and the Pharisee did not.
At that time, Jesus said to those who were,
– convinced of their own righteousness –
scorned others,
the following parable:
“Two people went up to the temple to pray;
one was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
The Pharisee stood with his head held high
and prayed to himself as follows:
God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of the people,
robbers, unrighteous, adulterers,
or also like that tax collector over there.
I fast twice a week
and give tithes from all my income.
But the tax collector remained at a distance
and would not even lift his eyes to heaven;
but he patted himself on the chest and said:
God, be merciful to me sinner.
I say to you:
this one went home justified and not that other one;
for all who exalt themselves shall be humbled,
but he who humbles himself shall be exalted.”

Encyclical of
Pope Francis
On caring for our common home
165. We know that technology based on highly polluting
fossil fuels, especially coal, but also oil and to a lesser extent gas,
must be replaced gradually and without hesitation. In anticipation of
a broad development of renewable energy, which should already have begun,
it is legitimate to opt for the least harmful alternative
or resort to transitional solutions. In the international
community, however, adequate agreements on
the responsibility of those who have to bear the greatest costs of the transition
on energy. In recent decades, environmental issues have
given rise to a broad public debate, which has created space in society
to a remarkable commitment and
generous dedication. Politics and industry are slow to respond and are
far from coping with global challenges. In this sense, one can
say that while the humanity of the post-industrial era might
will be listed as one of the most irresponsible of the
history, it is to be wished that humanity at the beginning of the 21st century
can go down in history for having generously assumed its own
heavy responsibilities.
