Encycliek van

PAUS FRANCISCUS

Tuesday – Mary, Mother and Mediatrix of Grace

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 am

Consideration
Jesus always refused to answer human curiosity about the when and how of a new life in Him. The “day of the Lord” is indeed an announced reality, an event we can expect, but we can imagine nothing concrete. We have no clues that would allow us to create an image of our resurrection, nor do we have any idea of that other reality: eternal life in God’s safety. All we can – and must – do is trust in God’s promise. To make the great leap of faith, from the certainty that we know nothing, but have everything to hope for. The only thing we do know is that we must be vigilant. Are we?

FIRST READING      I TESS. 5, 1-6. 9-11

Our Lord Jesus Christ died for us
that we might live in unity with Him.

From the First Letter of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Christians of Thessalonica

It is no use, brothers and sisters,
writing to you about time and hour.
Ye yourselves know very well
the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
While they say : Peace and safety reign
then, all of a sudden, destruction comes upon them
like woes to a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, do not live in darkness
so that the day should surprise you like a thief.
Ye are all children of light,
children of the day.
We do not belong to the night and darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, like the others
but be awake and sober.
For God has not destined us to suffer His wrath
but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us that we, being awake or already asleep, might live united with Him.
Therefore continue to encourage and support one another,
as indeed you already do.

Interludium Ps. 27(26), 1, 4, 13-14

I count myself lucky to experience in my life
to experience the benefits of the Lord.

The Lord is my light and my guide,
whom should I fear;
The Lord is the shelter of my life,
of whom shall I be afraid?

I ask only one thing of the Lord,
I shall not wish for more:
That I may dwell in the house of God
as long as I live.
That I may experience the Lord’s loveliness,
to see His temple with my own eyes again.

I count on experiencing
the benefits of the Lord.
Look unto the Lord and stand firm,
be of good courage and trust in the Lord.

Alleluia    Ps 119(118), 18

Alleluia.
Open my eyes to behold, Lord,
the glory of your law.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL     Lk 4, 31-37

I know who Thou art: the Holy One of God.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

In those days Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee
and there he appeared to the people as a teacher on the Sabbath.
They were amazed at His teaching,
because he spoke with authority.

Once there was in the synagogue a man
who was possessed by an unclean spirit
and began to shout loudly:
“Jesus of Nazareth!
what have we to do with each other?
“Have you come to destroy us?
“I know who you are: the Holy One of God.
Jesus added to him:
“Be silent and go away from him.”
The evil spirit swung him among the people
and went away from him
without causing him any harm.
They all stood stunned and said to each other :
“What is this word,
that with authority and power commands the unclean spirits
that they should go away?”
And his fame spread to all the places of that region.

Laudato Si

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care of the Common Home by Pope Francis

 41. When we penetrate the tropical and subtropical seas, we meet the coral reefs which correspond to the great forests of the mainland, because they are home to about a million species, including fish, crabs, molluscs, sponges and algae. Many of the world’s coral reefs are now barren or in continuous decline: “Who has turned the wonderful world of the sea into subterranean graveyards devoid of life and colour? This phenomenon is largely due to the pollution that reaches the sea as a result of deforestation, agricultural monocultures, industrial waste and destructive methods of fishing, especially those that use cyanide and dynamite. It is made worse by the increase in the temperature of the oceans. All this helps us to understand how any intervention in nature can have consequences that we do not perceive at first glance and that certain forms of resource exploitation are obtained at the cost of a decline that eventually reaches the bottom of the oceans.
