Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OVERWEGING
Waar de zonde heeft gewoekerd, daar werd de genade mateloos. De christen heeft geen Wet, geen extern opgelegde regels meer nodig. Christenen zijn dankzij Jezus’ verrijzenis vrije mensen geworden. Eens slaaf van de zonde, zijn zij nu in staat om God te dienen. Zij zijn gehoorzaam aan de heilige Geest, die in hun diepste binnenste aan het werk is. Zich onderwerpen aan wat God wil, is de enige werkelijke vrijheid. Wie werkelijk bemint, zet zich spontaan ten dienste van wie hij lief heeft.
EERSTE LEZING Rom. 6, 12-18
Biedt uzelf God aan als mensen
die uit de dood ten leven zijt opgestaan.
Uit de brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan de christenen van Rome
Broeders en zusters,
Laat de zonde niet heersen in uw sterfelijk lichaam,
gehoorzaamt haar niet ;
stelt uw ledematen niet in haar dienst
als werktuigen van ongerechtigheid.
Biedt uzelf God aan
als mensen die uit de dood ten leven zijt opgestaan.
Offert Hem uw ledematen
als werktuigen in dienst der gerechtigheid.
De zonde mag niet over u heersen,
want gij staat niet onder de wet maar onder de genade.
Betekent dit dat het ons vrij staat te zondigen
omdat wij niet meer onder de wet leven maar onder de genade ?
Dat verhoede God !
Het is immers duidelijk
dat gij die meester als slaven moet gehoorzamen
in wiens dienst gij u als slaven stelt :
ofwel gij dient de zonde
– en dit loopt uit op de dood –
ofwel gij dient God,
– en Hem gehoorzamen leidt tot gerechtigheid.
Maar gij zijt, God zij gedankt, geen slaven meer van de zonde :
van harte hebt gij u onderworpen
aan de beginselen van de leer die u is overgeleverd.
Zo zijt gij bevrijd van de heerschappij der zonde
en dienaars geworden van de gerechtigheid.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 124(123), 1-3, 4-6, 7-8
Wij werden gered door de Naam van de Heer.
Was de Heer niet met ons geweest,
zo mag Israël zeggen ;
was de Heer niet met ons geweest
toen allen zich tegen ons keerden ;
dan zouden wij levend verslonden zijn,
verzengd door de gloed van hun woede.
Dan had de vloed ons verzwolgen,
de bergstroom ons meegesleurd ;
dan waren wij reddeloos ondergegaan
in schuimende waterkolken.
De Heer zij geloofd, Hij gaf ons niet prijs,
ontrukte de prooi aan hun tanden.
Wij zijn als een vogel nog juist gevlucht,
ontsnapt aan het net van de jagers.
Het net van de vogelaar is gescheurd,
wij zijn er uit los gekomen.
Wij werden gered door de Naam van de Heer,
die hemel en aarde gemaakt heeft.

Mijn hart zij gericht op wat gij verordent, Heer;

EVANGELIE Lc. 12, 39-48
Van ieder aan wie veel is gegeven, zal veel worden geëist.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Lucas
In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen :
“Begrijpt dit wel :
als de eigenaar van het huis wist
op welk uur de dief zou komen,
zou hij in zijn huis niet laten inbreken.
“Weest ook gij bereid,
omdat de Mensenzoon komt
op het uur waarop gij het niet verwacht.”
Petrus vroeg Hem nu :
“Heer, bedoelt Gij deze gelijkenis voor ons of voor iedereen ?”
De Heer sprak :
“Wie zou die trouwe en verstandige beheerder wel zijn,
die de heer over zijn dienstvolk zal aanstellen
om hun op de gestelde tijd hun rantsoen koren te geven ?
“Gelukkig de knecht
die de heer bij zijn aankomst daarmee bezig vindt.
“Waarlijk, Ik zeg u :
hij zal hem aanstellen over alles wat hij bezit.
“Maar zegt die knecht bij zichzelf :
Mijn heer blijft nog wel een poosje weg,
en begint hij de knechten en dienstmeisjes te slaan,
en gaat hij zich te buiten aan spijs en drank,
dan zal de heer van die knecht komen
op een dag dat hij hem niet verwacht
en op een uur dat hij niet kent ;
hij zal hem met het zwaard straffen
en hij zal hem zo het lot doen ondergaan van de ontrouwen.
“De knecht die de wil van zijn heer kende,
maar geen beschikkingen trof noch handelde volgens diens wil,
zal zwaar getuchtigd worden.
“Wie echter in onwetendheid
dingen heeft gedaan die tuchtiging verdienen,
zal slechts licht gestraft worden.
“Van ieder aan wie veel is gegeven zal veel worden geëist ;
en van hem aan wie veel is toevertrouwd
zal des te meer worden gevraagd.”

FIRST READING Rom 6:12-18
Offer yourselves to God as men
who are risen from the dead to life.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome
Brothers and Sisters,
Let not sin reign in your mortal body,
do not obey it;
do not put your limbs at its service
as instruments of iniquity.
Offer yourselves to God
as men who are risen from the dead to life.
Sacrifice to Him your limbs
as instruments in the service of righteousness.
Sin must not rule over you,
for you are not under the law but under grace.
Does this mean that we are free to sin
because we are no longer under the law but under grace?
God forbid!
For it is clear
that you must obey that master as slaves
in whose service you are slaves:
Either you serve sin
– and this leads to death –
or you serve God,
– and obeying Him leads to righteousness.
But you are, thank God, no longer slaves to sin .
You have submitted with all your heart to the principles of the doctrine which has been handed down to you.
Thus you have been freed from the dominion of sin
and become servants of righteousness.

We were saved by the Name of the Lord.
Had the Lord not been with us,

In those days Jesus said to his disciples :
“Understand this :
If the owner of the house knew
at what hour the thief would come,
he would not allow his house to be broken into.
“Be ye also ready,
because the Son of Man is coming
at the hour when you least expect it.”
Peter now asked Him :
“Lord, do You mean this parable for us or for everyone?”
The Lord spoke :
“Who might this faithful and wise administrator be,
whom the Lord shall appoint over his servants
to give them their ration of corn at the appointed time?
“Happy the servant
who finds the lord busy at his arrival.
“Verily, I say unto you :
He will appoint him over all that he possesses.
“But says the servant to himself :
My lord will be away for some time,
and he starts beating the servants and maids,
and begins to indulge in food and drink,
then the master of the servant will come
on a day that he does not expect him
and at an hour which he knoweth not .
He shall punish him with the sword
and he will make him suffer the fate of the unfaithful.
“The servant who knew the will of his lord,
but made no provision nor did he act according to his will,
shall be severely punished.
“Who, however, in ignorance, hath done things deserving of punishment
shall be punished only lightly.

85. God has written a precious book, “whose letters are the multitude of created things present in the universe”.[54] The Canadian bishops rightly pointed out that no creature is excluded from this manifestation of God: “From panoramic vistas to the tiniest living form, nature is a constant source of wonder and awe. It is also a continuing revelation of the divine”.[55] The bishops of Japan, for their part, made a thought-provoking observation: “To sense each creature singing the hymn of its existence is to live joyfully in God’s love and hope”.[56] This contemplation of creation allows us to discover in each thing a teaching which God wishes to hand on to us, since “for the believer, to contemplate creation is to hear a message, to listen to a paradoxical and silent voice”.[57] We can say that “alongside revelation properly so-called, contained in sacred Scripture, there is a divine manifestation in the blaze of the sun and the fall of night”.[58] Paying attention to this manifestation, we learn to see ourselves in relation to all other creatures: “I express myself in expressing the world; in my effort to decipher the sacredness of the world, I explore my own”.[59]
