Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
De schepping is onvolmaakt van binnenuit geordend, maar soms ook chaotisch en onbegrijpelijk. Net als wij ziet ze reikhalzend uit naar verlossing: ze is gericht op, ze verwacht, ze verhoopt Gods glorie, zijn heerlijkheid. In deze spanningsvolle verwachting heeft de mens een taak te vervullen. Omdat de mens kind van God is, is hij in staat om uitdrukking te geven aan de hoop en de overtuiging dat Gods heerlijkheid eens komt. Levend in die verwachting mogen we onze ogen niet sluiten voor leed en onrecht, voor ziekte en pijn, verdrukking en dood.
EERSTE LEZING Rom. 8, 18-25
Ook de schepping verlangt vurig
naar de openbaring van Gods kinderen.
Uit de brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan de christenen van Rome
Broeders en zusters,
Ik ben er van overtuigd
dat het lijden van deze tijd niet opweegt tegen de heerlijkheid
waarvan ons de openbaring te wachten staat.
Ook de schepping
verlangt vurig naar de openbaring van Gods kinderen.
Want zij is onderworpen aan een zinloos bestaan,
niet omdat zij het zelf wil
maar door de wil van Hem die haar daaraan onderworpen heeft.
Maar zij is niet zonder hoop,
want ook de schepping
zal verlost worden uit de slavernij der vergankelijkheid
en delen in de glorierijke vrijheid van de kinderen Gods.
Wij weten immers
dat de hele natuur kreunt en barensweeën lijdt, altijd door.
En niet alleen zij, – ook wijzelf
die toch reeds de eerstelingen van de Geest hebben ontvangen,
ook wij zuchten over ons eigen lot
zolang wij nog wachten op de verlossing van ons lichaam.
In deze hoop zijn wij gered.
Maar men spreekt niet van hopen
als men het voorwerp van zijn hoop reeds aanschouwt :
Wie verwacht nog wat hij al ziet ?
Daar onze hoop gericht is op het onzichtbare
moet onze verwachting gepaard gaan met standvastigheid.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 126(125), 1-2ab, 2cd-3, 4-5, 6
Geweldig was het wat God de Heer ons deed.
De Heer bracht Sions ballingen terug :
het was alsof wij droomden.
Toen lachten alle monden
en juichte elke tong.
Toen zei men bij de volken :
geweldig is het wat de Heer hen deed.
Geweldig was het wat de Heer ons deed,
daarom zijn wij zo blij.
Keer nu ons lot ten goede, Heer,
zoals een beek doet in de Zuid-woestijn.
Die onder tranen zaaien
zij oogsten met gejuich.
Vol zorgen gaan zij uit
met zaaizakken beladen ;
maar keren zingend weer
beladen met hun schoven.

Waarachtig is God in al zijn woorden

en de vogels uit de lucht nestelden in zijn takken.”
Jezus zei ook nog :
“Waarmee zal Ik het Rijk Gods vergelijken ?
“Het gelijkt op gist,
die een vrouw in drie maten bloem verwerkte
totdat deze in hun geheel gegist waren.”

Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 am
Consideration
Paul expresses here a modern view that we do not often encounter in Christian literature. Creation itself is imperfect and not only ordered from within, but sometimes chaotic and incomprehensible. Like us, it longs for redemption, for insight, for meaning. This is Paul’s conviction and hope: one day, glory will come, and all the suffering of this present time, no matter how senseless it may seem, is outweighed by what awaits us then.
FIRST READING Rom 8:18-25
Creation, too, longs fervently
for the revelation of God’s children.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome
Brothers and sisters,
I am convinced that the sufferings of this present time do not outweigh the glory
of which we await revelation.
Even the creation
also longs fervently for the revelation of God’s children.
For it is subject to a meaningless existence,
not because it wants to be
but by the will of Him who subjected it.
But it is not without hope,
for creation too
will be redeemed from the bondage of mortality
and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.
We know that the whole of nature groans and suffers labor pains all the time.
And not only they, – also we
who have already received the first fruits of the Spirit,
we too sigh over our own fate
as long as we are still waiting for the redemption of our bodies.
In this hope we are saved.
But one does not speak of hope
when one beholds the object of his hope already :
Who expects what he sees?
As our hope is in the unseen
our hope must be accompanied by steadfastness.

Great was the thing that God the Lord did.
The Lord brought back Zion’s exiles :
It was as if we were dreaming.

99. According to the Christian conception of reality, the destiny of all creation passes through the mystery of Christ, who is present from the beginning: “The universe was created by him and for him” (Col 1:16). The prologue of John’s Gospel (1, 1-18) shows the creative activity of Christ as divine Word (logos). But this prologue surprises by asserting that this Word “became flesh” (Jn 1:14). A Person of the Trinity has joined the created cosmos and shared its destiny until the cross. From the beginning of the world, but in a special way since the Incarnation, the mystery of Christ has been working in a hidden way in the whole of natural reality, without affecting its autonomy.
