Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Dit is het begin van de Deutero-Jesaja. Zijn hoofdmotief keert steeds terug: de bevrijding uit de ballingschap is nakend. Er is weer plaats voor hoop en vreugde. De herhaling van het woord ‘troost’ legt hier een speciale nadruk op. Ook de nauwe relatie tussen ‘mijn’ volk en ‘uw’ God loopt doorheen het ganse boek.
EERSTE LEZING Jes. 40, 1-11
God troost zijn volk.
Uit de profeet Jesaja
“Troost, troost toch mijn Stad, zegt uw God –, spreek Jeruzalem moed in,
roep haar toe, dat haar straftijd voorbij is,
dat haar ongerechtigheid vergeven is,
dat zij van Gods hand
haar zonden dubbel betaald heeft gekregen.”
Een stem roept:
“Baan de HEER een weg in de steppe,
effen voor onze God een heerbaan in de woestijn,
elk dal moet gevuld,
elke berg en heuvel geslecht worden,
alle oneffenheden moeten vlak,
de rotsmassa’s een vallei worden.
En verschijnen zal de glorie des HEREN,
en alle vlees zal daarvan getuige zijn:
de mond des HEREN heeft het gezegd!”
Een stem spreekt:
“Roep!”
En ik vraag:
“Wat moet ik roepen?”
“Alle vlees is als gras,
en al zijn glorie als een bloem op het veld:
het gras verdort, de bloem verwelkt
zodra een hete wind erover blaast:
Het gras zijn de mensen!
Het gras verdort, de bloem verwelkt,
maar het woord van onze God houdt eeuwig stand!
Beklim de hoogste berg, gij Sion, vreugdebode,
verhef krachtig uw stem, Jeruzalem, vreugdegezant!
Verkondig het luide, ken geen vrees,
roep tot de steden van Juda:
Uw God is op komst!
Zie, GOD de Heer komt met kracht,
zijn arm voert de heerschappij;
zijn loon komt met Hem mee,
zijn beloning gaat voor Hem uit.
Als een herder zal Hij zijn schapen weiden,
in zijn armen ze samenbrengen,
de lammeren dragen tegen zijn boezem,
de schapen met zachte hand geleiden.”

God onze Heer zal komen met kracht (Jes. 40,9)
Zingt voor de Heer een nieuw gezang,
zingt voor de Heer, alle landen.

Meldt aan de naties zijn heerlijkheid,
zijn wondere daden aan alle volken.
Beeft voor de Heer, alle mensen op aarde,

“Wat dunkt u?
Wanneer een man honderd schapen heeft
en één daarvan verdwaalt,
zal hij dan niet
de negenennegentig in de bergen alleen laten
om op zoek te gaan naar het verdwaalde?
En gelukt het hem dat te vinden, voorwaar Ik zeg u,
dan zal hij over dat ene meer verheugd zijn
dan over de negenennegentig die niet verdwaald waren.
Zo ook wil uw hemelse Vader niet
dat een van deze kleinen verloren gaat.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
141. Van de andere kant neigt de economische groei ernaar automatisme voort te brengen en te “homogeniseren” om de processen te vereenvoudigen en de kosten te drukken. Daarom is er een economische ecologie nodig, die in staat is ons er toe te brengen vanuit een breder perspectief naar de werkelijkheid te kijken. Immers, “de bescherming van het milieu zal een noodzakelijk onderdeel moeten uitmaken van het ontwikkelingsproces en mag men niet geïsoleerd bekijken”. Maar tegelijkertijd wordt de dringende noodzaak van het humanisme actueel, dat een beroep doet op de verschillende sectoren van de kennis, ook de economische, voor een meer integrale en integrerende visie. Vandaag is de analyse van de milieu-problemen niet te scheiden van de analyse van de context van mens, gezin, werk en stad en van de relatie van iedere persoon met zichzelf, die ook de wijze bepaalt hoe hij met de ander en het milieu in relatie treedt. Er is een interactie tussen de ecosystemen en de verschillende maatschappelijke deelgebieden en zo blijkt nogmaals dat “het geheel meer is dan het deel”.

Consideration
This is the beginning of Deutero-Jesaya. Its main motif keeps recurring: deliverance from exile is imminent. There is room again for hope and joy. The repetition of the word ‘comfort’ gives it special emphasis. The close relationship between ‘my’ people and ‘your’ God also runs through the entire book.
FIRST READING Isa 40, 1-11
God comforts his people.
From the prophet Isaiah
“Comfort, comfort my city, says your God; give courage to Jerusalem,
proclaim to her that her time of punishment is over,
that her iniquity is forgiven,
because she received a double punishment
for her sins from the hand of the Lord.
A voice cries out:
“Make a way for the LORD in the steppe,
make smooth for our God a lord’s path in the desert,
every valley to be filled,
every mountain and hill to be pulled down,
every unevenness shall be leveled,
the rocky masses become a valley.
And the glory of the LORD shall appear,
and all flesh shall witness it:
the mouth of the LORD has said it!”
A voice speaks:
“Shout!”

141. On the other hand, economic growth tends to produce automatism and to “homogenise” in order to simplify processes and reduce costs. Therefore, we need an economic ecology that is able to make us look at reality from a broader perspective. After all, “environmental protection will have to be a necessary part of the development process and cannot be viewed in isolation”. But at the same time, humanism is becoming topical, calling on the various sectors of knowledge, including the economic, for a more comprehensive and integrative vision. Today, the analysis of environmental problems cannot be separated from the analysis of the context of man, family, work and city and from the relationship of each person with himself, which also determines the way in which he relates to the other and to the environment. There is an interaction between the ecosystems and the various social sub-areas, and this shows once again that “the whole is more than the part”.
