Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
De apostelen laten in hun gemeenschappen de zaken niet betijen. In gezamenlijk overleg nemen zij hun verantwoordelijkheid op. Een levendig overleg kan zoveel goeds doen om tot overeenstemming te komen. Leiders van geloofsgemeenschappen mogen zich door de Heilige Geest gedragen weten als zij met elkaar overleggen, naar elkaar luisteren, oplossingen zoeken die de eenheid bewerken en verdeeldheid voorkomen. Het is niet altijd gemakkelijk om dat waar te maken. Als wij de eerste geloofsgemeenschappen tot voorbeeld willen nemen blijft het toch de moeite waard er telkens weer op in te zetten!
EERSTE LEZING Hand. 15, 22-31
De heilige Geest en wij hebben besloten u geen zwaardere last op te leggen dan het noodzakelijke.
Uit de Handelingen van de Apostelen
In die dagen besloten de apostelen en de oudsten
samen met de hele gemeente
enige mannen uit hun midden te kiezen
en met Paulus en Barnabas naar Antiochië te sturen :
Judas, bijgenaamd Barsabbas,
en Silas, mannen van aanzien onder de broeders,
en hun het volgende schrijven mee te geven :
“De apostelen en de oudsten zenden hun broederlijke groet
aan de broeders uit de heidenen in Antiochië,
Syrië en Cilicië.
“Daar wij gehoord hebben
dat sommige van ons
u door woorden in verwarring hebben gebracht
en uw gemoederen hebben verontrust,
zonder dat ze van ons enige opdracht hadden gekregen,
hebben wij eenstemmig besloten
enige mannen uit te kiezen en naar u toe te sturen,
in gezelschap van onze dierbare Barnabas en Paulus,
mensen die zich geheel en al hebben ingezet
voor de naam van onze Heer Jezus Christus.
“Wij hebben dus Judas en Silas afgevaardigd
die ook mondeling hetzelfde zullen overbrengen.
“De heilige Geest en wij hebben namelijk besloten
u geen zwaardere last op te leggen dan dit onvermijdelijke :
u te onthouden van spijzen die aan afgoden geofferd zijn,
van bloed, van wat verstikt is
en van ontucht.
“Als gij uzelf daarvoor in acht neemt
zal het u goed gaan.
“Vaarwel !”
Na afscheid genomen te hebben reisden zij naar Antochië.
Daar riepen ze de gemeente bijeen
en overhandigden de brief.
Zij lazen hem en waren blij over de troostvolle inhoud.

U wil ik loven, Heer, voor alle volken,
voor alle naties zing ik U ter eer.

“Gij zijt mijn vrienden als gij doet wat Ik u gebied.
“Ik noem u geen dienaars meer
want de dienaar weet niet wat zijn heer doet,
maar u heb Ik vrienden genoemd
want Ik heb u alles meegedeeld wat Ik van de Vader heb gehoord.
“Niet gij hebt Mij uitgekozen maar Ik u,
en Ik heb u de taak gegeven op tocht te gaan

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
57. Het is te voorzien dat men ten overstaan van de uitputting van sommige hulpbronnen op zoek gaat naar een gunstig scenario voor nieuwe oorlogen, die worden gemaskeerd met nobele eisen. Oorlog brengt altijd zware schade toe aan het milieu en de culturele rijkdom van de volken en de risico’s worden enorm, wanneer men denkt aan kernwapens en biologische wapens. Immers, “ondanks dat internationale overeenkomsten een chemische, bacteriologische en biologische oorlog verbieden, is het een feit dat in de laboratoria het onderzoek naar de ontwikkeling van nieuwe aanvalswapens die in staat zijn het natuurlijk evenwicht aan te tasten, doorgaat”. Er wordt van de politiek een grotere aandacht gevraagd om de oorzaken die nieuwe conflicten kunnen veroorzaken, te voorkomen en op te lossen. Maar macht samen met geld is datgene wat zich het meest tegen deze pogingen verzet en politieke plannen hebben vaak geen brede visie. Waarom wil men vandaag een macht handhaven die men zich zal herinneren om haar onvermogen in te grijpen, toen het urgent en noodzakelijk was om het te doen?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 a.m.
Consideration
The apostles do not let things settle in their communities. In joint consultation they take up their responsibilities. Lively consultation can do so much good in reaching agreement. Leaders of faith communities may know themselves to be carried by the Holy Spirit when they consult with each other, listen to each other, seek solutions that work for unity and prevent divisions. It is not always easy to make this happen. Nevertheless, if we want to take the first communities of faith as an example, it remains worthwhile to strive for it again and again!
FIRST READING Acts 15, 22-31
The Holy Spirit and we have decided not to impose on you a heavier burden than is necessary.
From the Acts of the Apostles
In those days the apostles and the elders decided
together with the whole congregation
to choose some men from among themselves
and send them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch:
Judas, nicknamed Barsabbas,
and Silas, men of distinction among the brethren,
and to give them the following letter :
“The apostles and the elders send their fraternal greetings
to the brethren of the Gentiles in Antioch,
Syria and Cilicia.
“Since we have heard
that some of us
have confused you with words
and troubled your minds,
without having received any orders from us,
we have unanimously decided
to choose some men and send them to you
in company with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
men who have dedicated themselves
for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“We have therefore delegated Judas and Silas
who will also convey verbally the same.
“For the Holy Spirit and we have decided
to impose on you no heavier burden than this inevitable :
to abstain from food sacrificed to idols,
from blood, from what has been stifled
and from fornication.
“If ye take heed to these things
You shall prosper.
“Farewell!”
After saying goodbye, they traveled to Antiochia.
There they called the congregation together
and handed over the letter.
They read it and rejoiced at its comforting contents.

On the care of the common home
57. It is foreseeable that in the face of the depletion of some resources, a favourable scenario for new wars will be sought, masked by noble demands. War always causes serious damage to the environment and the cultural wealth of peoples, and the risks become enormous when one thinks of nuclear and biological weapons. After all, “despite the fact that international agreements prohibit chemical, bacteriological and biological warfare, the fact is that research into the development of new attack weapons capable of altering the natural balance continues in the laboratories”. Greater attention is demanded of politicians in order to prevent and resolve the causes that may cause new conflicts. But power together with money is what most resists these attempts and political plans often lack a broad vision. Why is there a desire to maintain a power today that will be remembered for its inability to intervene when it was urgent and necessary to do so?
