Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OVERWEGING
De liturgie leert ons vandaag hopen, en verwachten. Vurig uitzien naar wat als goddelijke belofte, niet als geplande prestatie, komen zal. Wees gegroet Maria, de meest gezegende ben je van alle vrouwen, en gezegend is de vrucht van uw schoot: met deze woorden reageert Elisabet op de begroeting van Maria. Louter menselijk gezien staan we hier voor een raadsel. Maar bijbels gesproken weten we dat God het initiatief neemt. Alles spreekt van vreugde en blijdschap. De Bijbelse mens heeft toekomst: hij leeft tussen het reeds en het nog niet helemaal. Hij leeft met de voorbode van het einde, de levenwekkende adem van Gods Geest. Christenen lopen vooruit op het feest dat komt: Op de dag waarop God alles in allen zal zijn.
EERSTE LEZING Sef. 3,14-18a
De Heer, de Koning van Israël, blijft bij u.
Sion, jubel van vreugde,
juich, Israël,
verheug u en wees blij, Jeruzalem,
met heel uw hart!
Het vonnis dat op u drukte,
werd door de HEER vernietigd,
Hij heeft uw vijand verjaagd.
De HEER, de Koning van Israël, blijft bij u:
Nu hoeft gij geen onheil meer te vrezen!
Op die dag zal er tot Jeruzalem gezegd worden:
Vrees niet, Sion,
en laat uw handen niet verslappen.
De HEER uw God is bij u
als een reddende held.
Uitermate verheugt Hij zich om u,
door zijn liefde maakt Hij u nieuw;
Hij jubelt om u van vreugde.
Israëls heilige woont in uw midden.
Ja, God is mijn heil, ik verlaat mij op Hem,
ik hoef voor geen onheil te vrezen.
De Heer is mijn sterkte, de Heer geeft mij kracht,
Hij toont zich mijn helper en redder.
De dag is nabij dat ge water zult putten
met opgeruimd hart uit de bron van het heil.
Brengt dank aan de Heer en huldigt zijn Naam,
verkondigt de volken zijn machtige daden,
maakt alom zijn grootheid bekend.
Zingt luid voor de Heer, die wonderen deed,
laat heel de aarde het horen.
Verheugt u en juicht, gij die Sion bewoont,
want Israëls Heilige woont in uw midden.

Zalig gij, Maria, die geloofd hebt
dat tot vervulling zal komen

EVANGELIE Lc. 1, 39-56
Waaraan heb ik het te danken dat de moeder van mijn Heer naar mij toekomt ?
In die dagen reisde Maria met spoed naar het bergland,
naar een stad in Juda.
Zij ging het huis van Zacharias binnen en groette Elisabet.
Zodra Elisabet de groet van Maria hoorde,
sprong het kind op in haar schoot.
Elisabet werd vervuld met de heilige Geest
en riep met luide stem uit:
“Gij zijt gezegend onder de vrouwen
en gezegend is de vrucht van uw schoot.
Waaraan heb ik het te danken
dat de moeder van mijn Heer naar mij toe komt?
Zie, zodra de klank van uw groet mijn oor bereikte
sprong het kind van vreugde op in mijn schoot.
Zalig zij die geloofd heeft dat tot vervulling zal komen
wat haar vanwege de Heer gezegd is.”
En Maria sprak:
“Mijn hart prijst hoog de Heer.
Van vreugde juicht mijn geest om God, de redder,
daar Hij welwillend neerzag op de kleinheid zijner dienstmaagd.
En zie, van heden af prijst elk geslacht mij zalig
omdat Hij die machtig is aan mij zijn wonderwerken deed,
en heilig is zijn Naam.
Barmhartig is Hij van geslacht tot geslacht
voor hen die Hem vrezen.
Hij toont de kracht van zijn arm;
slaat trotsen van hart uiteen.
Heersers ontneemt Hij hun troon,
maar Hij verheft de geringen.
Die hongeren overlaadt Hij met gaven,
en rijken zendt Hij heen met lege handen.
Zijn dienaar Israël heeft Hij zich aangetrokken,
gedachtig zijn barmhartigheid voor eeuwig
jegens Abraham en zijn geslacht,
gelijk Hij had gezegd tot onze Vaderen.”
Nadat Maria ongeveer drie maanden bij haar gebleven was
keerde zij naar huis terug.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
68. Deze verantwoordelijkheid ten opzichte van een aarde die van God is, houdt in dat het menselijk wezen, begiftigd met verstand, de natuurwetten en het delicate evenwicht tussen de wezens van deze wereld eerbiedigt, “want zijn bevel heeft hen allen geschapen. Hij bepaalde hun plaats voor eeuwig, gaf hun een wet die voor altijd geldt” (Ps. 148, 5b-6) . Hieruit volgt het feit dat de Bijbelse wetgeving erbij blijft stilstaan het menselijk wezen verschillende normen voor te houden, niet alleen met betrekking tot de andere menselijke wezens, maar ook met betrekking tot de andere levende wezens: “Ook als een ezel of een os van uw broeder ten val komt, moogt ge niet toezien zonder een hand uit te steken (…). Wanneer gij onderweg in een boom of op de grond een vogelnestje vindt met jongen of met eitjes en het wijfje zit erop, dan moogt ge het wijfje niet meenemen en de jongen achterlaten” (Deut. 22, 4.6) . In deze lijn wordt de rust op de zevende dag niet alleen maar voorgehouden voor het menselijk wezen, maar ook opdat “ook uw rund en uw ezel kunnen rusten” (Ex. 23, 12) . Zo realiseren wij ons dat de Bijbel geen aanleiding geeft tot een despotisch antropocentrisme dat zich niet bekommert om de andere schepsels.

CONSIDERATION
Today the liturgy teaches us to hope and to expect. Fervently looking forward to what will come as a divine promise, not a planned performance. Hail Mary, most blessed are you of all women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb: with these words Elisabet responds to Mary’s greeting. From a purely human point of view, we are faced with a riddle here. But biblically speaking, we know that God takes the initiative. Everything speaks of joy and gladness. Biblical man has a future: he lives between the already and the not quite. He lives with the harbinger of the end, the life-giving breath of God’s Spirit. Christians anticipate the feast to come: the day when God will be all in all.

To what do I owe it that the Mother of my Lord comes to me?
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
In those days Mary travelled in haste to the mountain country,
To a city in Judah.
She entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
As soon as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary,
the child leapt up into her womb.
Elisabet was filled with the Holy Spirit
and exclaimed with a loud voice:
“Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
To what do I owe it
that the mother of my Lord comes to me?
Behold, as soon as the sound of thy greeting reached my ear, the child
the child leaped up for joy in my womb.
Blessed is she who has believed that it will be fulfilled
what was said to her from the Lord.
And Mary spoke:
“My heart praises the Lord on high.
My spirit rejoices for the sake of God the Saviour,
for He looked kindly on the smallness of His handmaid.
And behold, from this day forth every generation doth bless me

After Mary had stayed with her for about three months
She returned home.

On Care of the Common Home
68. This responsibility towards an earth which belongs to God implies that the human being, endowed with reason, respects the laws of nature and the delicate balance between the creatures of this world, “for his command created them all. He determined their place for ever, gave them a law which stands forever” (Ps 148:5b-6) . From this follows the fact that biblical law insists on imposing different standards on the human being, not only with regard to other human beings, but also with regard to other living beings: “Even if a donkey or an ox falls from its brother, you must not look on without stretching out a hand (…). If, on the way, you find in a tree or on the ground a bird’s nest with young or eggs on it and the female is sitting on it, you must not take the female and leave the young behind” (Deut. 22, 4.6). In this line, the rest on the seventh day is not only prescribed for the human being, but also so that “your ox and your donkey may rest” (Ex. 23, 12) . Thus we realise that the Bible does not give rise to a despotic anthropocentrism that has no concern for the other creatures.
