Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Het hoogfeest dat wij vandaag vieren
doet ons dankbaar uitkijken naar de toekomst, onze eigen toekomst.
Maria heeft haar ja-woord aan de Heer gegeven
en gedurende haar hele leven heeft zij zich aan dat Woord overgegeven.
Vandaag vieren wij dat ze de krans van het eeuwig leven ontvangt in de hemel.
Laten wij ons hart openen en bidden
dat ook wij elke dag proberen te leven naar het Woord van de Heer
en zo ook eens bij Hem mogen thuiskomen.
EERSTE LEZING Apok. 11, 19a; 12, 1-6a.10ab
Een Vrouw, bekleed met de zon, de maan onder haar voeten.
Uit de Openbaring van de heilige apostel Johannes
De tempel van God in de hemel ging open,
en de ark van zijn verbond
werd zichtbaar in zijn tempel.
En er verscheen een groot teken aan de hemel:
Een Vrouw,
bekleed met de zon, de maan onder haar voeten
en op haar hoofd een kroon van twaalf sterren.
Zij was zwanger en kreet in haar weeën en barensnood.
Toen verscheen aan de hemel een ander teken:
Een grote, vuurrode Draak.

Christus is opgewekt uit de doden
als eersteling van hen die ontslapen zijn.
Want omdat door een mens de dood is gekomen,
komt door een mens ook de opstanding der doden.
Zoals allen sterven in Adam,
zo zullen ook allen in Christus herleven.
Maar ieder in zijn eigen rangorde:
Als eerste en voornaamste Christus,

In die dagen reisde Maria met spoed naar het bergland,
naar een stad in Juda.
Zij ging het huis van Zacharias binnen en groette Elisabet.
Zodra Elisabet de groet van Maria hoorde,
sprong het kind op in haar schoot.
Elisabet werd vervuld met de heilige Geest
en riep met luide stem:
“Gij zijt gezegend onder de vrouwen
en gezegend is de vrucht van uw schoot.
“Waaraan heb ik het te danken
dat de moeder van mijn Heer naar mij toekomt?
“Zie, zodra de klank van uw groet mijn oor bereikte,
sprong het kind van vreugde op in mijn schoot.
“Zalig zij die geloofd heeft dat tot vervulling zal komen
wat haar vanwege de Heer gezegd is.”
En Maria sprak:
“Mijn hart prijst hoog de Heer.
“Van vreugde juicht mijn geest om God, mijn redder,
daar Hij welwillend neerzag op de kleinheid van zijn dienstmaagd.
“En zie, van heden af prijst elk geslacht mij zalig
omdat Hij die machtig is, aan mij zijn wonderwerken deed,
en heilig is zijn Naam.
“Barmhartig is Hij, van geslacht tot geslacht,
voor hen die Hem vrezen.
“Hij toont de kracht van zijn arm;
slaat trotsen van hart uiteen.
“Heersers ontneemt Hij hun troon,
maar Hij verheft de geringen.
“Die hongeren overlaadt Hij met gaven,
en rijken zendt Hij heen met lege handen.
“Zijn dienaar Israël heeft Hij zich aangetrokken,
indachtig zijn barmhartigheid voor eeuwig
jegens Abraham en zijn geslacht,
gelijk Hij had gezegd tot onze vaderen.”
Nadat Maria ongeveer drie maanden bij Elisabet gebleven was
keerde zij naar huis terug.

PAUS FRANCISCUS
Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
15. Ik hoop dat deze encycliek, die zich voegt bij de sociale leer van de Kerk, ons helpt te de grootheid, urgentie en schoonheid te erkennen die zich aan ons voordoet. Op de eerste plaats zal ik een overzicht geven van de verschillende aspecten van de huidige ecologische crisis om de beste vruchten van het vandaag beschikbare wetenschappelijke onderzoek over te nemen, ons er ten diepste door te laten raken en een concrete basis te geven aan het daarop volgende ethische en spirituele traject. Uitgaande van dit overzicht zal ik enkele argumentaties hernemen die voortkomen uit de joods-christelijke traditie om onze inzet voor het milieu een grotere samenhang te geven. Vervolgens zal ik trachten te komen tot de wortels van de huidige situatie om niet alleen de symptomen, maar ook de diepe oorzaken ervan te begrijpen. Zo zullen wij een ecologie kunnen voorstellen die in haar verschillende dimensies de specifieke plaats die het menselijk wezen in deze wereld inneemt, en zijn relaties met de omringende werkelijkheid aanvult. In het licht van deze reflectie zou ik een stap verder willen gaan in enkele brede lijnen voor een dialoog en activiteit die zowel ieder van ons, als de internationale politiek erbij betrekt. Ten slotte, daar ik er van overtuigd ben dat iedere verandering motivering en een educatieve weg nodig heeft, zal ik enkele richtlijnen voor menselijke rijping voorstellen die geïnspireerd zijn door de schat aan christelijke spirituele ervaring.

Opening words
The high feast we celebrate today
makes us gratefully look forward to the future, our own future.
Mary gave her yes to the Lord
and throughout her life she surrendered herself to that Word.
Today we celebrate her receiving the garland of eternal life in heaven.
Let us open our hearts and pray
that we too try to live each day according to the Word of the Lord
and so too may one day come home to Him.

A Woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet.
From the Revelation of the holy apostle John
The temple of God in heaven was opened,
and the ark of his covenant
became visible in his temple.

In those days Mary travelled in haste to the mountain country,
to a city in Judah.
She went into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
As soon as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary,
the child leapt up into her womb.
Elisabet was filled with the Holy Spirit
and cried out with a loud voice:
“Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
“To what do I owe it
that the mother of my Lord comes to me?
“Behold, as soon as the sound of thy greeting reached my ear,
the child sprang up in my womb with joy.
“Blessed is she who has believed that it will come to pass
what was said to her from the Lord.”
And Mary spoke:
“My heart praises the Lord on high.
“For joy my spirit rejoices for God, my Saviour,
for He looked kindly on the smallness of His handmaiden.
“And behold, from this day forth every generation doth bless me
because he that is mighty hath done his wondrous works unto me,
and holy is his name.
“Merciful is He, from generation to generation,
to them that fear him.
“He showeth the power of His arm;
smiteth the proud in heart.

After Mary had stayed with Elisabeth for about three months,
she returned home.

On the Care of the Common Home
15. It is my hope that this Encyclical Letter, which is now added to the body of the Church’s social teaching, can help us to acknowledge the appeal, immensity and urgency of the challenge we face. I will begin by briefly reviewing several aspects of the present ecological crisis, with the aim of drawing on the results of the best scientific research available today, letting them touch us deeply and provide a concrete foundation for the ethical and spiritual itinerary that follows. I will then consider some principles drawn from the Judaeo-Christian tradition which can render our commitment to the environment more coherent. I will then attempt to get to the roots of the present situation, so as to consider not only its symptoms but also its deepest causes. This will help to provide an approach to ecology which respects our unique place as human beings in this world and our relationship to our surroundings. In light of this reflection, I will advance some broader proposals for dialogue and action which would involve each of us as individuals, and also affect international policy. Finally, convinced as I am that change is impossible without motivation and a process of education, I will offer some inspired guidelines for human development to be found in the treasure of Christian spiritual experience.
