Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
EERSTE LEZING Jes. 40, 1-11
God troost zijn volk.
Uit de Profeet Jesaja
“Troost, troost toch mijn Stad, – zegt uw God -,
spreek Jeruzalem moed in,
roep haar toe, dat haar straftijd voorbij is,
dat haar ongerechtigheid vergeven is,
dat zij van Gods hand
haar zonden dubbel betaald heeft gekregen.”
Een stem roept :
“Baan de Heer een weg in de steppe,
effen voor onze God een heerbaan in de woestijn,
elk dal moet gevuld,
elke berg en heuvel geslecht worden,
alle oneffenheden moeten vlak,
de rotsmassa’s een valei worden.
“En verschijnen zal de glorie des Heren,
en alle vlees zal daarvan getuige zijn :
De mond des Heren heeft het gezegd !”
Een stem spreekt : “Roep !”
En ik vraag : “Wat moet ik roepen ?”
“Alle vlees is als gras,
en al zijn glorie als een bloem op het veld :
Het gras verdort, de bloem verwelkt
zodra een hete wind erover blaast :
Het gras zijn de mensen !
“Het gras verdort, de bloem verwelkt,
maar het woord van onze God houdt eeuwig stand !”
“Beklim de hoogste berg, gij Sion, vreugdebode,
verhef krachtig uw stem, Jeruzalem, vreugdegezant !
“Verkondig het luide, ken geen vrees,
roep tot de steden van Juda :
Uw God is op komst !
“Zie, God de Heer komt met kracht,
zijn arm voert de heerschappij ;
zijn loon komt met Hem mee,
zijn beloning gaat voor Hem uit.
“Als een herder zal Hij zijn schapen weiden,
in zijn armen ze samenbrengen,
de lammeren dragen tegen zijn boezem,
de schapen met zachte hand geleiden.”
TUSSENZANG Ps. 96(95), 1-2, 3, 10 ac, 11-12, 13
God onze Heer zal komen met kracht (Jes. 40,9).
Zingt voor de Heer een nieuw gezang,
zingt voor de Heer, alle landen.
Zingt voor de Heer en verheerlijkt zijn Naam,
verkondigt zijn heil alle dagen.
Meldt aan de naties zijn heerlijkheid,
zijn wondere daden aan alle volken.
Beeft voor de Heer, alle mensen op aarde,
de volken bestuurt Hij met billijkheid.
Dan straalt de hemel en jubelt de aarde,
de zee neuriet mee met al wat daar leeft;
de velden zwaaien met al hun gewassen,
de woudreuzen buigen hun kruin.
Zij juichen de Heer toe omdat Hij komt,
Hij komt als koning der aarde.
Rechtvaardig zal Hij de wereld regeren,
de volkeren eerlijk en trouw.
ALLELUIA
Alleluia.
Kom Heer, blijf niet uit,
en delg de misdaden van uw volk.
Alleluia.
EVANGELIE Mt. 18, 12-14
God wil niet dat deze kleinen verloren gaan.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Matteüs
In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen :
“Wat dunkt u ?
“Wanneer een man honderd schapen heeft
en één daarvan verdwaalt,
zal hij dan niet
de negenennegentig in de bergen alleen laten
om op zoek te gaan naar het verdwaalde ?
“En gelukt het hem dat te vinden, voorwaar Ik zeg u,
dan zal hij over dat ene meer verheugd zijn
dan over de negenennegentig die niet verdwaald waren.
“Zo ook wil uw hemelse Vader niet
dat een van deze kleinen verloren gaat.”

FIRST READING Isa 40:1-11
God comforts his people.
From the Prophet Isaiah
“Comfort, comfort yet my City, – says your God -,
speak courage to Jerusalem,
call to her, that her time of punishment is over,
that her iniquity is forgiven,
that from the hand of God
her sins have been doubly paid for.”
A voice calls out :
“Make way for the Lord in the steppe,
pave for our God a high road in the desert,
every valley must be filled,
every mountain and hill to be swept down,
every unevenness must be leveled,
the rock masses become a valley.
“And appear shall the glory of the Lord ,
and all flesh shall witness it :
The mouth of the Lord has said it !”
A voice speaks : “Call!”
And I ask : “What should I call out?”
“All flesh is like grass ,
and all its glory like a flower in the field :
The grass withers, the flower withers
as soon as a hot wind blows over it :
The grass is the people !
“The grass withers, the flower withers ,
but the word of our God endures forever!”
“Climb the highest mountain, ye Zion, messenger of joy,
lift up mightily thy voice, Jerusalem, messenger of joy !

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples :
“What do you think?
“If a man has a hundred sheep
and one of them goes astray ,
shall he not
leave the ninety-nine alone in the mountains
to go in search of the stray one ?
“And shall he succeed in finding it, verily I say to you,
he shall rejoice more over that one
than over the ninety-nine who were not lost.
“Likewise, your heavenly Father does not want
that any of these little ones should be lost.”

On caring for the common home
134. Although no conclusive proof exists that GM cereals may be harmful to human beings, and in some regions their use has brought about economic growth which has helped to resolve problems, there remain a number of significant difficulties which should not be underestimated. In many places, following the introduction of these crops, productive land is concentrated in the hands of a few owners due to “the progressive disappearance of small producers, who, as a consequence of the loss of the exploited lands, are obliged to withdraw from direct production”.[113] The most vulnerable of these become temporary labourers, and many rural workers end up moving to poverty-stricken urban areas. The expansion of these crops has the effect of destroying the complex network of ecosystems, diminishing the diversity of production and affecting regional economies, now and in the future. In various countries, we see an expansion of oligopolies for the production of cereals and other products needed for their cultivation. This dependency would be aggravated were the production of infertile seeds to be considered; the effect would be to force farmers to purchase them from larger producers.
