Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Jesaja formuleert een klacht die we ook vandaag regelmatig horen: God waar zijt Ge? Waarom laat Ge onrecht toe? Waar is het recht? Na de retorische vraag, volgt het antwoord van de profeet. De noodsituatie is geen bewijs dat God machteloos is, maar dat zijn wegen en plannen niet de onze zijn. Schep dus moed en heb vertrouwen.
EERSTE LEZING Jes. 40, 25-31
De almachtige Heer verleent kracht aan wie moe is.
Uit de Profeet Jesaja
“Met wie wilt gij Mij vergelijken,
met wie Mij gelijkstellen,” vraagt de Alheilige.
“Richt uw ogen naar boven en kijk eens goed ;
wie heeft dit alles geschapen ?
“Wie laat de hemellichamen voltallig uittrekken,
wie roept ze alle bij naam,
is zo geweldig machtig en sterk
dat er niet één op het appèl ontbreekt ?
“Hoe kunt gij dan zeggen, Jakob,
hoe kunt gij beweren, Israël,
dat uw wegen voor de Heer verborgen zijn,
dat uw recht God zou ontgaan ?
“Weet gij dan niet,
hebt gij dan nooit gehoord,
dat de Heer een eeuwige God is,
en schepper van heel het aardoppervlak,
dat Hij niet moe wordt, geen uitputting kent,
en dat zijn wijsheid ondoorgrondelijk is ?
“Aan wie moe is verleent Hij kracht,
aan wie geen weerstand heeft, schenkt Hij overvloedige energie.
“Jonge mannen kunnen moe worden en uitgeput,
kerels kunnen bezwijken,
maar allen die op de Heer vertrouwen
ontvangen nieuwe kracht,
en slaan hun vleugels uit als adelaars :
Zij lopen, maar worden niet moe,
zij rennen, maar raken niet uitgeput !”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
12. Anderzijds houdt de heilige Franciscus in trouw aan de Schrift ons voor de natuur te erkennen als een schitterend boek waarin God tot ons spreekt en aan ons iets doorgeeft van zijn schoonheid en goedheid, “want uit de grootheid en de schoonheid van de schepselen wordt men door vergelijking hun Schepper gewaar” (Wijsh. 13, 5) , en “wordt van de schepping der wereld af zijn onzichtbaar wezen door de rede in zijn werken aanschouwd” (Rom. 1, 20) . Daarom vroeg hij dat er in het klooster altijd een gedeelte van de tuin onbebouwd werd gelaten, opdat er wilde kruiden konden groeien, zodat al degenen die ze zouden bewonderen, hun gedachten tot God konden verheffen, de schepper van zoveel schoonheid. De wereld is iets meer dan een probleem dat moet worden opgelost, het is een vreugdevol mysterie dat wij in vreugde en lofprijzing beschouwen.

Consideration
Isaiah formulates a complaint that we also hear regularly today: God where art Thou? Why does Thou allow injustice? Where is justice? After the rhetorical question, the prophet’s answer follows. The emergency is not proof that God is powerless, but that His ways and plans are not ours. So take courage and have faith.

The Lord Almighty grants strength to those who are weary.
From the Prophet Isaiah
“With whom will ye compare Me,
with whom equate Me,” asks the Almighty.
“Cast your eyes upwards and look carefully ;
Who created all this ?
“Who makes the heavenly bodies go out in full,
who calls them all by name,
is so mighty and strong
That not one is missing from the roll-call ?
“How then can ye say, Jacob,
how canst thou claim, Israel,
that thy ways are hidden from the Lord,
that thy right would escape God ?

12. On the other hand, Saint Francis, in fidelity to Scripture, reminds us to recognise nature as a marvellous book in which God speaks to us and transmits to us something of his beauty and goodness, “for from the greatness and beauty of creatures one perceives by comparison their Creator” (Wis. 13:5) , and “from the creation of the world his invisible being is seen by reason in his works” (Rom. 1:20) . Therefore, he asked that in the monastery, a part of the garden should always be left uncultivated, so that wild herbs could grow there, so that all those who would admire them could raise their thoughts to God, the creator of so much beauty. The world is something more than a problem to be solved, it is a joyous mystery that we contemplate in joy and praise.
