Consideration
To whom is this letter of Hebrews addressed? The text says much more about the author than the addressees. The author is steeped in the O.T. and quotes from it constantly. Both yesterday and today, for instance. In fact, today’s reading is a continuation. God speaks in many ways: Through his messengers, his prophets (yesterday) or angels (today) but uniquely He has expressed Himself in his Son, who surpasses all. For a short time (the time of his human life) He seemed far below the angels. Now He is exalted above all in glory. This thought of Jesus’ glory will recur regularly throughout the book.
FIRST READING Hebr. 2, 5-12
It was only right that God, who creates and preserves all things,
should make Jezus perfect through suffering, in order to bring
many sons to share his glory.
From the letter to the Hebrews to brothers and sisters,
It is certainly
that God did not give the reign to angels
about the world of the future, which is actually our subject.
Here is the statement in force that we read in Scripture :
“What is man that Thou rememberst him
and the human child that Thou look upon him?
“Thou hast set him beneath the angels for a short time.
“Thou hast crowned him with glory and honor.
“Thou hast submitted all things to him
and laid at his feet.”
That God has subdued all things to man,
means of course that nothing is excepted.
In fact, however, we do not yet see
that all things are subject to Him.
But we do see how Jesus
Who for a short time had been placed beneath the angels
is now crowned with glory and honor,
because He conquered death.
By God’s grace, his dying was for the benefit of all.
God,
final destination and origin of all things,
want to lead many children to the heavenly glory ;
it was therefore appropriate
that He is their captain and savior
through suffering brought to perfection.
For he who sanctifies
and those who are sanctified have one and the same origin;
that’s why He doesn’t shy away from it,
call them his brethren when He says :
“I will proclaim your name to my brothers
and sing your praises in the middle of the congregation.”
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 8, 2a, 5, 6-7, 8-9
All your creation
Thou hast submitted to man.
Lord, our Lord,
how awesome is your Name on earth.
Ah, what is man, then, that Thou look upon him,
the human child, that Thou care for him so?
Not much less than an angel Thou created him,
dressed him with beauty and splendor ;
all your creation subject to him,
everything laid down at his feet:
Cattle and sheep everywhere,
also the wild animals in the fields;
birds in the air and fish in the sea,
all that is teeming in the oceans.
ALLELUIA Ps. 19(18), 9
Alleluia.
Your precepts, Lord, are trustworthy,
they give insight to the ignorant
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mc. 1, 21-28
Jesus taught as someone who possesses authority.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Marcus
At that time Jesus and his disciples came to Kafarnaum,
and on the next Sabbath He went to the synagogue
where he acted as a teacher.
People were amazed at his teachings and outside of themselves,
for He did not teach them like scribes
but as someone who possesses that authority.
There was just a man in their synagogue
who was in the power of an unclean spirit
and started screaming loudly:
“Jesus of Nazareth, what has Thou got to do with us ?
“You have come to ruin us.
“I know who Thou art: the holy God.”
Jesus added him:
“Shut up and get out of him.”
The unclean spirit shook him back and forth,
gave another loud scream and got away from him.
All stood so surprised that they asked among themselves :
“What does that mean ?
“A new doctrine with authority !
“He commands the unclean spirits and they obey Him.”
His fame quickly spread in all directions.
all over the region of Galilee.

About caring for the common house
46. The social components of global change also include the effects on employment of some technological innovations, social exclusion, inequality in availability and consumption of energy and other services, social fragmentation, increase in violence and emergence of new forms of social aggressiveness, drug trafficking and increasing drug use among the youngest, loss of identity. These are among other signs that show how the growth of the last two centuries in all its aspects has not meant integral progress and an improvement in the quality of life. Some of these signs are at the same time symptoms of social decay, a tacit severing of the bonds of integration and social community.
