Sixth Easter Sunday

The Lord is truly risen.

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one except,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Opening word
Between Easter and Pentecost
we continue our journey,
between faith and unbelief,
between bewilderment and hope.
God’s Word wants to nourish us
and makes us look forward more and more
for the coming of God’s Spirit:
The comforter and helper in our midst.
Open our hearts,
that we may be touched
by God’s presence in our midst
and we direct our actions to God’s Word.

FIRST READING        Acts 8:5-8,14-17

They laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days the deacon Philip came into the city of Samaria
and preached the Messiah there.
Philip’s words met with general approval
when the people heard what he said
and saw the signs he performed.
From many possessed people the unclean spirits went away
went away with loud cries
and many lambs and cripples were healed.
Great joy arose over this in that city.

When the apostles in Jerusalem learned
that Samaria had accepted the word of God,
they sent for Peter and John,
who after their arrival, said a prayer over them,
that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
For this had not yet descended on any of them;
they had only been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.
So they laid hands on them
and they received the Holy Spirit.

Responsorial       Ps 66(65), 1-3a, 4-5, 6-7a, 16 and 20

Refrain
Rejoice before God, all the nations of the earth.

Rejoice before God, all the nations of the earth,
sing the glory of His Name.
Bring Him homage and say to your God:
“Astonishing are all Your deeds;”.

All the earth should worship Thee,
chant Your holy Name.
Come and behold what God has done,
staggering deeds among men.

He made the sea a dry valley,
they passed through the bed on foot.
Let us rejoice for him
Who reigns forever by His power.

Come then, God-fearers, listen to me,
I will tell what He has done to me.
God be praised, He did not reject me,
did not withhold His mercy from me.

SECOND READING       1 Petr 3:15-18

Slain according to the flesh, He was raised to life according to the spirit.

From the first letter of the holy apostle Peter

Dearly beloved,

Sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord.
Always be ready to give an account
to all those who ask you for an account
of the hope that lives in you.
But defend yourselves with meekness and due reverence,
and make sure your conscience is clear.
Then those
who taunt your good Christian walk of life,
will be ashamed of their slander.
How much better it is, God willing,
to suffer for the good one does
than to suffer punishment for crimes.

Christ, too, died once and for all for sins,
the Just for the unjust,
to bring us to God.
Slain according to the flesh,
He was raised to life according to the Spirit.

Verse for the gospel      John 14, 23

Alleluia;
If anyone loves Me ,
he will keep My word, says the Lord;
My Father will love him,
and We will come to him.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL         Jn 14:15-21

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
“Then at my prayer the Father will give you another Helper
to abide with you forever:
The Spirit of truth,
to whom the world is not receptive,
because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
“Ye know Him ,
for He abides with you and will be in you.

“I will not leave you orphaned:
I will return to thee.
“Another short time and the world will see Me no more;
ye, however, shall see Me,
for I live, and ye also shall live.
“In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father
and ye in Me and I in you.
“He that keepeth My commandments which he hath received ,
it is he who loves Me.
“And whoever loves Me will be loved by My Father;
I also will love him, and I will reveal Myself to him.”

Laudato Si

Encyclic by

POPE FRANCIS

On caring for the common home

169. As for the care of biological diversity and desertification, progress has been far less significant. On climate change, progress has been woefully low. Reducing greenhouse gases requires sincerity, courage and responsibility, especially on the part of the most powerful and polluting countries. The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, called Rio+20 (Rio de Janeiro 2012), issued a final declaration that was as comprehensive as it was ineffective. The international negotiations cannot proceed in a significant way as a result of the positions of countries that favour their own national interests over the global common good. All those who will suffer the consequences we are trying to cover up will remember this lack of awareness and responsibility. While we were drafting this encyclical, the debate has reached a particular intensity. We believers cannot but pray God for a positive development of the current debate so that future generations will not suffer the consequences of unwise procrastination.
