Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one except,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
A house, brothers, sisters, a father, and a mother, children, and fields: We don’t leave them all behind just like that. Nor is Jesus asking us to despise these valuable parts of our lives so that we can give them up more easily. Nor is it that we feel too little love towards them or are completely detached from our roots. So there must be some other reason why the Gospel makes such crass statements. What Jesus wants to make clear is this: To be able to give up such important things, there must be something else that is much more important, much greater, than everything that is already so precious to us: We will get it back a hundredfold when we choose Jesus.

FIRST READING       Sir.35, 1-12

He who keeps the commandments brings with him a peace offering.

From the Book of Sirach

He who keeps the law brings many sacrifices,
He who keeps the commandments brings with it a peace offering;
he who performs a charitable deed brings a meat offering,
and he who gives alms brings an offering of thanksgiving.
The Lord delights in breaking with wickedness
and breaking with iniquity is atonement.
However, do not come before the Lord empty-handed,
for all this is required by the commandment.
The sacrifice of a righteous man fattens the altar
and its fragrant aroma comes before the Highest;
the sacrifice of a righteous man is pleasant
and the memory of it is not forgotten.
Glorify the Lord with a joyful countenance
and take nothing from the firstfruits you have to give;
and in all your offerings show a cheerful countenance.
And sanctify the tithes with joy.
Give to the Highest according to what he has given you;
give with a cheerful countenance and according to your ability.

INTERLUDIUM               Ps 50(49), 5-6, 7-8, 14, 23

He who walks in straight paths finds salvation from God.

Bring here all those who are devoted to Me
who have ratified My covenant with a sacrifice.
The heavens bear witness to His righteousness :
It is God Himself who judges.

Hear now, My people, what I am about to tell you,
hear, O Israel, what I accuse you of,
for I am God, your God.
I do not reproach you for your sacrifices :
I see your sacrificial animals burning all the time.

Rather bring to God the sacrifice of your praise,
fulfill your vows to the Highest.
He who offers sacrifices of praise truly honors Me,
he who walks on the right path finds salvation from God.

Alleluia Ps. 27(26), 11

Alleluia.
Show me your way, O Lord, in the face of opposition
lead me in plain paths.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL      Mk 10, 28-31

Whoever follows Me will receive the hundredfold
and in the world to come, eternal life.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark

At that time Peter took the floor and said to Jesus :
“Behold, we have given up everything to follow You.”
Jesus answered :
“Verily, I say unto you :
No one takes home, brothers, sisters,
mother, father, children, or fields
for My sake and the sake of the Good News,
or he will receive now, in this time, a hundredfold
of houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields,
be it also accompanied by persecution,
and in the world to come, eternal life.
“Many firsts will be lasts
and many late ones first.”

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care of the Common Home

185. In any discussion about a proposed venture, several questions need to be asked to discern whether or not it will contribute to genuine integral development. What will it accomplish? Why? Where? When? How? For whom? What are the risks? What are the costs? Who will pay those costs and how? In this discernment, some questions must have higher priority. For example, we know that water is a scarce and indispensable resource and a fundamental right that conditions the exercise of other human rights. This indisputable fact overrides any other assessment of environmental impact on a region.
