Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s Word.
Available every day
Consideration
We don’t like parables that deal with the “last judgement”. Their language is sharp and harsh. They hit us hard. But above all, they are meant as a call to sincere repentance. We may continue to trust in a God who is loving and gracious to his people. Calling for repentance is perhaps a form of love. It is wanting the best for others. Do we have an ear for that?
FIRST READING Jer 18:1-6
As clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.
From the prophet Jeremiah
Jeremiah received this word from the Lord:
“Go to the house of the potter.
“There I will let you hear what I have to say to you.
I went to the potter’s house.
He was busy with the disk.
When the pot he was sculpting
gave way under his hands,
he started making another pot from the clay,
which he liked.
Then the word of the Lord came to me:
“O house of Israel ,
I cannot do to you what this potter did .
– is the word of the Lord -?
“As clay in the potter’s hand you are in my hand, O house of Israel .
you are in my hand, O house of Israel”.
Interludium Ps. 146(145), 2abc, 2d-4, 5-6
Blessed is he who seeks help from the God of Jacob.
I will praise the Lord all my life
I will sing to my God all my days.
Do not put your trust in a prince, who, like us, is a man,
he cannot grant happiness.
Once I give up the ghost, return to earth,
then his power will be over.
Happy is he who seeks the help of the God of Jacob,
puts his hope in the Lord God;
On Him who made heaven and earth,
the sea with all that lives.
ALLELUIA Ps 119(118), 88
Alleluia.
Be merciful to me and let me live, O Lord,
then I will be faithful to what You command.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 13, 47-53
The good fish were chosen and put into baskets,
the bad ones were thrown away.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that moment, Jesus said to the crowd:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a net
that is thrown into the sea
and catches all kinds of fish.
“When it was full, people pulled it up on the shore;
One sat down
to collect the good fish and put them in baskets,
The bad ones, on the other hand, were thrown away.
“So will it be at the end of the world:
The angels shall go forth
and seek the wicked among the righteous
and cast them into the furnace of fire.
“There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
“Have you understood all this?”
They answered him:
“Yes.”
He said to them:
“Therefore, every scribe
who is taught in the kingdom of heaven
is like a householder
who takes from his treasure the new and the old”.
When Jesus had finished these parables
he departed from there.
