Invitation

May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

FIRST READING                   Gal. 3, 1-5

Have you received the Spirit by keeping the law or by believing the gospel message?
Or by believing the gospel message?

From the holy apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians

You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you!
Surely Jesus Christ was openly and unabashedly
described as the crucified one?
One thing I want to know from you:
Did you receive the Spirit by keeping the law or by believing in the gospel message?
Or by believing in the gospel message?
How can you be so foolish!
You started with the Spirit,
Do you want to get rid of the flesh?
Have you gone through so much for nothing?
I cannot accept that.
Again,
if God gives you the Spirit and does miracles among you,
is it because you keep the law
or because you listen and believe?

INTERLUDIUM                Lk 1:69-70, 71-72, 73-75

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel
for he cares for his people and redeems them.

He has begotten for us a saviour
in the seed of David, his faithful;
as he has prophesied of old
by his holy prophets:
Deliverance from the power of our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us.
Thus will He have mercy on our fathers,
he will keep his holy covenant.

The oath which our father Abraham swore
To grant us once;
To be delivered from the clutches of enemies
To serve him without fear;
In piety and uprightness
All our days before Him.

ALLELUIAH           cf. Lk. 8, 15

Alleluia.
Blessed are those who keep the word of God which they have heard,
keep it with a good and noble heart
and bear fruit by their steadfastness.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL               Lk. 11, 5-13

Ask and you shall be given.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
‘Suppose one of you has a friend.
In the middle of the night he comes to him and says to him,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,’
for a friend of mine has come on a journey.
And I have nothing to serve him.
‘Would the other inside then reply, ‘Don’t bother me:
The door is already closed and my children and I are in bed;
Can’t I get up to give it to him?
‘I say to him
if he does not get up and give it to you because you are his friend,
he will still get up and give you everything you need,
because of his immodest insistence.
‘To you I say the same thing:
Ask and it will be given to you ;
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and it shall be opened to you.
‘For he who asks, receives; he who seeks, finds;
and to whom knocks, it shall be opened.
‘Is there not sometimes a father among you who gives his son a stone
when he asks for bread?
‘Or if he asks for fish
shall he not give him a snake instead of fish?
‘Or if he asks for an egg
will he not then give him a scorpion?
‘If you then – even though you are a bad person –
know how to give good gifts to your children ,
how much more will your Father who is in heaven
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him for it’.

Fratelli tutti

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

62. This offer of love can also be misinterpreted. Not for nothing
Paul did not denounce for nothing the temptation of the first Christian
communities to form a closed and isolated group.
The temptation of the first Christian communities to form a closed
and isolated group was not for nothing.
He forms his disciples to love one another and ‘for all’ (1 Thess. 3. 12)
12); and in the community of John, the ‘brethren were asked to love one
another and “for all”’ (1 Thess. 3. 12); and in the community of John, the ‘brethren ,
even though they are strangers’ (3 John 5) were to be welcomed. This
context helps to understand the value of the parable of the Good
Samaritan: for love, it does not matter whether the wounded brother comes
from here or from there. For it is ‘love that breaks the chains that isolate and separate us
by building bridges; a love that enables us
to build a big family in which we can all feel at home […].
A love that tastes of compassion and dignity’.
