Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OVERWEGING
In elke eucharistieviering herhalen wij tot op vandaag vlak vóór de communie de woorden van de honderdman ‘Heer, ik ben niet waardig dat Gij tot mij komt…’ Deze man was een heiden, maar Jezus vond in hem een geloof zoals bij niemand in Israël. Verder is het opvallend dat hij Jezus’ hulp niet voor zichzelf inroept, maar voor zijn zieke knecht. God wil dat alle mensen gered worden, zegt Paulus in de eerste lezing. Dus niet alleen de christenen of de katholieken, en ook niet alleen onze vrienden of familie. Jezus heeft zichzelf gegeven als losprijs voor allen. Het enige dat Hij nodig heeft om als middelaar op te treden, is een eenvoudig, belangeloos gebed en een nederig geloof.
EERSTE LEZING I Tim. 2,1-8
Ik vraag u gebeden te verrichten voor alle mensen.
Uit de eerste brief van de heilige apostel Paulus aan Timoteüs
Dierbare,
Allereerst vraag ik u
gebeden, smekingen, voorbeden en dankzeggingen te verrichten
voor alle mensen, voor koningen en alle hooggeplaatsten,
opdat wij ongestoord en rustig
een in alle opzichten godvruchtig en waardig leven kunnen leiden.
Dit is goed en welgevallig in het oog van God, onze Heiland,
die wil dat alle mensen gered worden
en tot de kennis van de waarheid komen.
Want God is één,
één is ook de middelaar tussen God en de mensen,
de mens Christus Jezus,
die zichzelf gegeven heeft als losprijs voor allen:
op de vastgestelde tijd legde Hij zijn getuigenis af.
En ik ben hiervan aangesteld als heraut en apostel
– ik spreek de waarheid, ik lieg niet –
om de volken te onderrichten in het ware geloof.
Ik wil dus
dat op elke plaats waar de gemeente samenkomt om te bidden,
de mannen hun handen opheffen in een geest van godsvrucht,
die haat en ruzie uitsluit.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 28(27), 2, 7, 8-9
Gezegend de Heer, die mijn smeken gehoord heeft.
Hoor naar mijn smeken, als ik U aanroep,
mijn handen hef naar uw heiligdom.
Gezegend de Heer, die mijn smeken gehoord heeft,
de Heer, mijn kracht en mijn schild.
De Heer is een sterke macht voor zijn volk,
en voor zijn gezalfde een veilige burcht.
Red, Heer, uw volk en zegen uw erfdeel ;
hoed hen en draag hen voor immer.

EVANGELIE Lc. 7, 1-10
Zelfs in Israël heb Ik zo’n groot geloof niet gevonden.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens Lucas
In die tijd ging Jezus,
na afloop van zijn onderricht aan het luisterende volk,
naar Kafarnaüm.
Daar was een honderdman, die een knecht had
aan wie hem veel gelegen was;
die knecht was ziek en lag op sterven.
Omdat de honderdman van Jezus hoorde,
zond hij enkele oudsten van de Joden naar Hem toe
met het verzoek zijn knecht te komen genezen.
Bij Jezus gekomen riepen zij met aandrang zijn hulp in.
Ze zeiden:
“Hij verdient dat Gij hem deze gunst bewijst,
want hij houdt van ons volk
en hij heeft op eigen kosten de synagoge voor ons gebouwd.”
Daarop ging Jezus met hen mee.
Maar toen Hij niet ver meer van het huis was,
liet de honderdman Hem door vrienden zeggen:
“Heer, doe geen verdere moeite;
ik ben niet waard dat Gij onder mijn dak komt.
Daarom meende ik ook er geen aanspraak op te mogen maken
persoonlijk naar U toe te komen.
Maar een woord van U is voldoende
om mijn knecht te doen genezen.
Want al ben ik zelf een ondergeschikte,
ik heb weer manschappen onder mij:
en tot de een zeg ik: ga, en hij gaat,
en tot een ander: kom, en hij komt,
en aan mijn knecht: doe dit, en hij doet het.”
Toen Jezus dit hoorde stond Hij verwonderd over hem.
Hij keerde zich om en zei tot het volk dat Hem volgde:
“Ik zeg u:
zelfs in Israël heb Ik zo’n groot geloof niet gevonden.”
Toen de mensen die gestuurd waren, in het huis terugkeerden,
vonden zij de knecht weer gezond.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis door Paus Franciscus
56. In de tussentijd blijven de economische machten het huidige mondiale systeem rechtvaardigen, waarbij speculeren en zoeken naar financieel gewin prevaleren, die ertoe neigen iedere context en de effecten op de menselijke waardigheid te negeren. Zo wordt duidelijk dat het verval van het milieu en het menselijk en ethisch verval nauw met elkaar verbonden zijn. Velen zullen zeggen dat zij er zich niet van bewust zijn dat zij immoreel handelen, omdat de constante verstrooiing ons de moed ontneemt om de werkelijkheid van een beperkte en eindige wereld gewaar te worden. Daarom “blijft alles wat broos is, zoals het milieu, weerloos ten overstaan van de belangen van de vergoddelijkte markt, die in een absolute regel zijn veranderd”.

CONSIDERATION
In every Eucharistic celebration until today, just before Communion, we repeat the words of the centurion: “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come to me…”. This man was a pagan, but Jesus found in him a faith like none in Israel. It is also striking that he does not ask Jesus’ help for himself, but for his sick servant. God wants all people to be saved, Paul says in the first reading. So not only Christians or Catholics, nor only our friends or family. Jesus gave himself as a ransom for all. All He needs to act as mediator is a simple, disinterested prayer and a humble faith.
FIRST READING I Tim. 2,1-8
I ask you to offer prayers for all people.
From the first letter of the holy apostle Paul to Timothy
Dear ones,
First of all I ask you
prayers, supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings
for all men, for kings and for all high authorities,
so that we may quietly and peacefully
live a godly and dignified life in all respects.
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour,
Who wants all men to be saved
and come to the knowledge of the truth.
For God is one,
one also is the mediator between God and man,
the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all:
at the appointed time He gave His testimony.
And I have been appointed herald and apostle hereof
– I speak the truth, I do not lie –
to instruct the nations in the true faith.
So I want
that in every place where the congregation gathers for prayer,
the men should lift up their hands in a spirit of godliness,
which excludes hatred and strife.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
In those days Jesus,
after teaching the people who were listening,
went to Capernaum.
There was a centurion, who had a servant
about whom he was greatly concerned;
The servant was sick and dying.
Because the centurion heard about Jesus,
he sent some of the elders of the Jews to him
with the request to come and heal his servant.
When they came to Jesus, they urgently asked for His help.
They said:
“He deserves that Thou shouldst do him this favour,
for he loves our people
and he has built the synagogue for us at his own expense.”
Thereupon Jesus went with them.
But when He was not far from the house,
the centurion had his friends say to Him:
“Lord, make no further effort;
I am not worthy that Thou shouldst come under my roof.
That is why I did not think I could claim to come to You in person.
But a word from You is sufficient
to heal my servant.
For though I myself am a subordinate,
I have men under me again:
And to one I say, Go, and he goes,
and to another I say, Come, and he comes,
and to my servant I say, Do this, and he does it.
When Jesus heard this He was amazed.
He turned and said to the people who were following Him:
“I tell you:
even in Israel I have not found such great faith.”
When the people who had been sent returned to the house,
they found the servant healthy again.

In the meantime, the economic powers continue to justify the current global system, in which speculation and the search for financial gain prevail, tending to ignore any context and the effects on human dignity. It thus becomes clear that environmental decay and human and ethical decay are closely linked. Many will say that they are not aware that they are acting immorally, because the constant scattering deprives us of the courage to perceive the reality of a limited and finite world. Therefore, “everything fragile, such as the environment, remains defenceless in the face of the interests of the deified market, which have been turned into an absolute rule”.
