Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Wis de oudste zoon ? Wie is de jongste ? Volgens de tekst verwijst de oudste zoon naar de hogepriesters en de oudsten. Zij menen God te behagen en te dienen. Ze zeggen “ja”, maar sluiten hun hart en doen “neen”.
De jongste zoon, dat zijn de tollenaars en de ontuchtige vrouwen. Ze handelen verkeerd, maar komen tot inkeer en luisteren naar Jezus. Hun “neen” wordt “ja”. De liturgie zegt ons langs de eerste lezing wie ook nog de jongste zoon zou kunnen zijn: de heidenen, alle volken die geroepen zijn en tot inkeer komen. Dat zijn wij. Wij komen uit de heidenen. Toch horen we niet automatisch bij Jezus. Soms zeggen ook wij “neen“. Zijn we bereid tot inkeer en bekering ?
EERSTE LEZING Sef. 3, 1-2. 9-13
Het messiaanse heil wordt beloofd aan de armen.
Uit de Profeet Sefanja
Wee de weerspannige, bezoedelde, gewelddadige stad !
Zij luistert naar geen vermaning,
zij wil van geen onderrichting weten,
zij vertrouwt niet op de Heer
en nadert niet tot haar God.
Ik zal aan de volken
andere, reine lippen geven.
Dan zullen zij allen de naam van de Heer aanroepen
en eensgezind Hem dienen.
Van over de rivieren van Ethiopië,
waarheen zij verstrooid zijn,
brengen zij Mij hun offers, degenen die Mij aanbidden.
Dan wordt onder u geen misdaad tegen Mij meer begaan
waarover gij u hebt te schamen,
want Ik verwijder dan uit uw midden
de hoogmoedige pronkers ;
op mijn heilige berg
zult gij u niet langer misdragen.
Ik laat bij u alleen nog over
een nederig, bescheiden volk,
dat zijn toevlucht vindt bij de naam van de Heer :
de rest van Israël.
Zij bedrijven geen onrecht meer,
zij vertellen niet langer leugens
en in hun mond is geen arglistige tong meer te vinden.
Zij zullen weiden en rustig neerliggen
zonder dat hen nog iemand opschrikt.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 34(33), 2-3, 6-7, 17-18, 19, 23
Die roepen in nood, naar hen luistert de Heer.
De Heer zal ik prijzen iedere dag,
zijn lof ligt mij steeds op de lippen.
Mijn geest is fier op de gunst van de Heer,
laat elk die het hoort zich verheugen.
Verlaat u op Hem, dan wordt ge gelukkig,
want Hij stelt u niet teleur.
Die roepen in nood, naar hen luistert de Heer
en redt hen uit hun ellende.
Van boosdoeners keert Hij zijn aangezicht af,
zij worden op aarde vergeten.
Naar vromen die roepen luistert de Heer
en redt hen uit iedere nood.
De Heer is nabij voor rouwmoedige harten,
Hij helpt wie zijn schuld erkent.
De Heer redt het leven van wie Hem dient,
alwie tot Hem vlucht heeft geen straf te duchten.

en de oudsten van het volk :
“Wat denkt ge van het volgende ?
“Een man had twee zonen.
“Hij ging naar de eerste toe en zei :
Mijn zoon, ga vandaag werken in mijn wijngaard.
“Goed vader, antwoordde deze,
maar hij deed het niet.
“Toen ging hij naar de tweede en zei hetzelfde.
“Deze antwoordde : Neen, ik wil niet ;
maar later kreeg hij spijt en ging toch.
“Wie van de twee heeft nu de wil van zijn vader gedaan ?”
Ze zeiden :
“De laatste.”
Toen zei Jezus hun :
“Voorwaar, Ik zeg u :
de tollenaars en de ontuchtige vrouwen
gaan eerder dan gij het Rijk Gods binnen.
“Johannes kwam tot u en beoefende de gerechtigheid ;
toch hebt gij hem geen geloof geschonken,
terwijl de tollenaars en de ontuchtige vrouwen
hem wel geloof schonken.
“Maar zelfs nadat ge dit hadt gezien,
zijt ge toch niet tot inkeer gekomen

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis
148. Bewonderenswaardig is de creativiteit en de edelmoedigheid van mensen en groepen die in staat zijn de beperkingen van het milieu op te heffen door de ongunstige effecten van de bestaande condities te veranderen en te leren te midden van wanorde en onzekerheid richting aan hun bestaan te geven. Op sommige plaatsen bijvoorbeeld, waar de gevels van de gebouwen zeer zijn achteruit gegaan, zijn er mensen die met veel zorg het interieur van hun woning onderhouden of zich op hun gemak voelen door de hartelijkheid en vriendschap van de mensen. Het positieve en weldadige maatschappelijke leven van de bewoners verspreidt licht in een op het eerste gezicht onleefbare omgeving. Soms is de menselijke ecologie prijzenswaardig die de armen te midden van zo grote beperkingen weten te ontwikkelen. Het gevoel van verstikking dat door woonagglomeraties en ruimten met een hoge bevolkingsdichtheid wordt veroorzaakt, wordt bestreden, als zich menselijke relaties van nabijheid en warmte ontwikkelen, als zich gemeenschappen vormen, als de beperkingen van het milieu worden gecompenseerd in de innerlijkheid van iedere persoon die zich voelt opgenomen in een netwerk van communicatie en verbondenheid. Zo houdt iedere plaats op een hel te zijn en wordt het de context van een waardig leven.

Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Consideration
Who is the eldest son? Who is the youngest ? According to the text the oldest son refers to the high priests and the elders. They think they are trying to please and serve God. They say “yes”, but close their hearts and do “no”.
The youngest son is the tax collector and the fornicator. They act wrongly, but repent and listen to Jesus. Their “no” becomes “yes”. In the first reading, the liturgy tells us who else could be the youngest son: the gentiles, all peoples who are called and come to repentance. That is us. We come from the gentiles. Yet we do not automatically belong to Jesus. Sometimes we too say “no”. Are we ready to repent and turn?
FIRST READING Seph. 3, 1-2. 9-13
The messianic salvation is promised to the poor.
From the Prophet Sephaniah
Woe to the rebellious, defiled, violent city!
It listens to no warning,
It wants no instruction,
It trusts not in the Lord
and will not draw near to her God.
I will give to the nations
I will give the nations other pure lips.
Then shall they all call upon the name of the Lord
and serve Him in one accord.
From over the rivers of Ethiopia
where they are scattered,
they will bring Me their sacrifices, those who worship Me.
Then shall no more be committed among you any offence against Me
Of which you must be ashamed,
for I will then remove from among you
The proud boasters ;
On My holy mountain

But later he regretted it and went anyway.
“Which of the two has now done the will of his father?”
They said :
“The last one.”
Then Jesus said to them :
“Verily, I say unto you :
The tax collectors and the fornicators

“John came to you, practising righteousness;
yet you gave him no faith,
whereas the tax collectors and the fornicating women

On Care of the Common Home
148. Admirable is the creativity and generosity of people and groups who are able to overcome the limitations of the environment by changing the unfavourable effects of the existing conditions and learning to give direction to their existence in the midst of disorder and uncertainty. For example, in some places where the facades of the buildings have deteriorated badly, there are people who take great care of the interior of their houses or feel at ease because of the warmth and friendship of the people. The positive and benevolent social life of the residents spreads light in an apparently unlivable environment. Sometimes the human ecology that the poor manage to develop in the midst of such great constraints is commendable. The feeling of suffocation caused by residential agglomerations and areas of high population density is combated when human relationships of proximity and warmth develop, when communities are formed, when the constraints of the environment are compensated for in the interiority of each person who feels included in a network of communication and connection. Thus, every place ceases to be hell and becomes the context of a dignified life.
