Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Zoals Simeon ziet ook Hanna hoopvol en gelovig, biddend en intens uit naar bevrijding.
Aan die verwachting en belofte heeft zij zich helemaal en lange jaren toegewijd. In de ontmoeting met Jezus bevestigt Hanna als een tweede getuige het inzicht van Simeon: Jezus de bevrijder. Zij dankt God en spreekt over Jezus met allen die delen in haar verwachting. Zijn komst betekent immers vergeving van de zonde en het einde van de macht van het kwaad. Vanaf nu kent men de Vader zoals Hij is. Het antwoord hierop betekent concreet: zich afkeren van elke vorm van zelfzucht en zich afstemmen op wat God ter harte gaat. Dan woont de liefde van de Vader werkelijk in ons. De genade en de wijsheid van God mogen ook in ons toenemen en ons innerlijk sterk maken. Wij zullen dan beamen: de Heer regeert (ps 96,10).

Wie de wil doet van God blijft in eeuwigheid.

Ik schrijf u, kinderen,
dat uw zonden vergeven zijn
ter wille van de naam van Jezus Christus.

en het begeren der ogen
en de hovaardij van het geld –
het komt niet van de Vader
maar van de wereld.
En die wereld gaat voorbij
met heel haar begeerlijkheid,
maar wie de wil doet van God
blijft in eeuwigheid.

De hemel straalt en de aarde jubelt.
Huldigt de Heer, alle stammen en volken,
huldigt de Heer om zijn glorie en macht,
huldigt de Heer om de roem van zijn Naam.

Hanna spreekt over Jezus tot allen die de bevrijding van Jeruzalem
verwachten.

In die tijd was er een profetes, Hanna,
een dochter van Fanuël, uit de stam van Aser.
Zij was hoogbejaard
en na haar jeugd had zij zeven jaren met haar man geleefd.
Nu was zij een weduwe van vierentachtig jaar.
Ze verbleef voortdurend in de tempel
en diende God dag en nacht door vasten en gebed.
Op dit ogenblik kwam zij naderbij,
dankte God en sprak over het kind tot allen
die de bevrijding van Jeruzalem verwachtten.
Toen zij alle voorschriften van de Wet des Heren vervuld hadden
keerden zij naar Galilea, naar hun stad Nazaret terug.
Het kind groeide op en nam toe in krachten ;
het werd vervuld van wijsheid
en de genade Gods rustte op Hem.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
164 Vanaf het midden van de vorige eeuw heeft, met het overwinnen van veel moeilijkheden, de tendens om de planeet te beschouwen als een vaderland en de mensheid als een volk dat een gemeenschappelijk huis bewoont, steeds meer opgeld gedaan. Een wereld van onderlinge afhankelijkheid betekent niet alleen maar begrijpen dat de schadelijke gevolgen van de stijlen van leven, productie en consumptie allen treffen, maar vooral ervoor zorgen dat de oplossingen worden voorgesteld vanuit een wereldomvattend perspectief en niet alleen maar ter verdediging van de belangen van enkele landen. De onderlinge afhankelijkheid verplicht ons aan één wereld te denken, aan een gemeenschappelijk project. Maar hetzelfde vernuft dat gebruikt wordt voor een enorme technische ontwikkeling, slaagt er niet in doeltreffende vormen van internationaal beheer te vinden om de ernstige moeilijkheden van milieu en maatschappij op te lossen. Om de fundamentele problemen aan te pakken, die niet door acties van landen afzonderlijk kunnen worden opgelost, wordt een mondiale consensus onontbeerlijk, die bijvoorbeeld ertoe leidt een duurzame en gediversifieerde landbouw te programmeren, hernieuwbare en weinig vervuilende vormen van energie te ontwikkelen, een grotere efficiëntie op het gebied van energie te stimuleren, een adequater beheer van bos- en zeehulpbronnen te bevorderen, voor allen de toegang tot drinkwater te waarborgen.

can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Consideration
Like Simeon, Hanna looks forward to deliverance with hope and faith, prayerfully and intensely.
She devoted herself completely and for many years to this expectation and promise. In the encounter with Jesus, Hanna confirms Simeon’s insight as a second witness: Jesus the liberator. She thanks God and speaks about Jesus to all those who share her expectation. His coming means forgiveness of sin and the end of the power of evil. From now on, one knows the Father as He is. The answer to this means concretely: to turn away from every form of selfishness and to tune in to what is dear to God. Then the love of the Father truly dwells in us. The grace and wisdom of God may also increase in us and make us strong inwardly. We will then confirm: the Lord rules (ps 96,10).

She was very old
and after her youth had lived seven years with her husband.
Now she was an eighty-four year old widow.
She dwelt continually in the temple
and served God day and night by fasting and prayer.
At this moment she came nearer,
thanked God and spoke about the child to all those
who were expecting the deliverance of Jerusalem.
When they had fulfilled all the requirements of the Lord’s law,
they returned to Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
The child grew and increased in strength ;
he was filled with wisdom
and the grace of God rested upon him.

On Care of the Common Home
164 Since the middle of the last century, with the overcoming of many difficulties, the tendency to consider the planet as a homeland and humanity as a people inhabiting a common house has become more and more prevalent. A world of interdependence means not only understanding that the harmful consequences of the styles of life, production and consumption affect all, but above all ensuring that the solutions are proposed from a global perspective and not simply in defence of the interests of a few countries. Interdependence obliges us to think of one world, of a common project. But the same ingenuity that is used for enormous technical development fails to find effective forms of international management to solve the serious difficulties of the environment and society. In order to tackle the fundamental problems that cannot be solved by the actions of individual countries, a global consensus becomes indispensable, leading, for example, to the programming of sustainable and diversified agriculture, to the development of renewable and low-polluting forms of energy, to greater energy efficiency, to the more appropriate management of forest and marine resources, and to the guarantee of access to drinking water for all.
