Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Het gebed van David (na de douche van Nathan, die zijn plannen doorkruist) is uitzonderlijk mooi. Ik zal u een huis bouwen horen we. Huis (beth) heeft de betekenis van gebouw, en ook van familie. Vandaag gaat het over de tweede betekenis: Wie ben ik en wat is mijn huis dat ge me zover gebracht hebt ? Inderdaad de kleine herdersknaap die van achter de schapen vandaan komt, mag dit alles wel beseffen. Daarom komt deze gedachte voortdurend terug in het gebed: verleden en toekomst geven elkaar de hand. Wie ben ik ? Het mag ook ons gebed zijn. De antwoordzang is een echo van psalm 132 op dit gebed.
EERSTE LEZING 2 Sam. 7, 18-19. 24-29
Wie ben ik, Heer God, en wat is mijn huis ?
Uit het tweede Boek Samuël
Nadat Natan tot David gesproken had,
ging koning David het heiligdom binnen ;
hij zette zich neer voor de Heer en zei :
“Wie ben ik, Heer God, en wat is mijn huis,
dat Gij mij zover gebracht hebt ?
“En nu is U dit alles nog niet genoeg, Heer God :
ook over de toekomst van het huis van uw dienaar spreekt Gij.
“Is dit voor een mens wel weggelegd, Heer God ?
“Gij hebt uw volk Israël voorgoed bevestigd als uw volk
en Gij, Heer, zijt hun God.
“Doe daarom, Heer God, altijd het woord gestand
dat Gij gesproken hebt tot uw dienaar
en tot zijn huis
en handel volgens uw woord.
“Dan zal uw naam voor altijd groot zijn ;
dan zal gezegd worden :
God, de Heer van de hemelse machten is God over Israël
en voor U blijft het huis van uw dienaar David in stand.
“Gij, God, Heer van de hemelse machten, God van Israël,
Gij hebt uw dienaar geopenbaard :
Ik zal u een huis bouwen.
“Daardoor heeft uw dienaar de moed gevonden,
dit gebed tot U te richten.
“Welnu dan, Heer God,
Gij zijt God en uw woorden zijn betrouwbaar ;
Gij hebt deze weldaad aan uw dienaar beloofd.
“Zegen dan nu het huis van uw dienaar,
dat het altijd voor U mag blijven bestaan.
“Gij zelf, Heer God, hebt gesproken ;
uw rijke zegen zal voor altijd rusten
op het huis van uw dienaar.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 132(131), 1-2, 3-5, 11, 12, 13-14
God de Heer zal Hem de troon van zijn vader
David schenken (Lc. 1, 32b)
Heer, denk in uw mildheid aan David,
aan zijn bezorgdheid voor U ;
hoe hij de Heer had gezworen,
de Sterke van Jakob beloofd :
Ik zal mijn huis niet betreden,
niet rusten gaan op mijn bed ;
ik gun mijn ogen geen slaap meer,
mijn oogleden weiger ik rust,
tot ik voor de Heer een plaats vind,
voor Jakobs Sterke een huis.
De Heer heeft David gezworen
een eed die Hij nimmer breekt :
een telg uit uw geslacht

dan zullen hun zonen ook voor altijd
zetelen op uw troon.
Want God heeft de Sion gekozen,

De maat die gij gebruikt zal men ook voor u gebruiken.

In die tijd zei Jezus tot de menigte :
“Komt er soms een lamp,
om onder de korenmaat of onder de rustbank gezet te worden
of juist om op de standaard te worden geplaatst ?
“Niets is verborgen dat niet openbaar gemaakt zal worden ;
en niets is geheim dat niet aan het licht zal komen.
“Als iemand oren heeft om te horen, hij luistere.”
Verder zei Hij :
“Let op wat gij hoort.
“De maat die gij gebruikt
zal men ook voor u gebruiken ;
zelfs een toemaat zal men u geven.
“Aan wie heeft zal gegeven worden ;
maar wie niet heeft
hem zal nog ontnomen worden, zelfs wat hij heeft.”

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis
192. Een traject van een meer creatieve en beter georiënteerde ontwikkeling van de productie zou bijvoorbeeld de ongelijkheid kunnen corrigeren tussen een buitensporige technologische investering voor de consumptie en een schaarse investering voor het oplossen van de urgente problemen van de mensheid; het zou verstandige en winstgevende vormen van hergebruik, functioneel terugkrijgen en recycling kunnen genereren; het zou de energetische doelmatigheid van de steden kunnen verbeteren, enzovoort. De diversificatie van de productie biedt het menselijk verstand zeer uitgebreide mogelijkheden om te scheppen en te vernieuwen, terwijl het het milieu beschermt en meer werkgelegenheid schept. Dit zou een creativiteit zijn die in staat is opnieuw de adeldom van de mens te doen bloeien, omdat het meer getuigt van waardigheid met moed en verantwoordelijkheid het verstand te gebruiken om binnen het kader van een bredere opvatting over kwaliteit van leven vormen van een duurzame en rechtvaardige ontwikkeling te vinden. Andersom getuigt het van minder waardigheid en creativiteit en van een grotere oppervlakkigheid door te gaan met creëren van vormen van plundering van de natuur te creëren, alleen maar om nieuwe mogelijkheden voor consumptie en onmiddellijk rendement te bieden.

Consideration
David’s prayer (after Nathan’s shower, which thwarts his plans) is exceptionally beautiful. I will build you a house we hear. House (beth) has the meaning of building, and also of family. Today it is about the second meaning: Who am I and what is my house that you have brought me this far? Indeed, the little shepherd boy who comes from behind the sheep may realise all of this. That is why this thought constantly recurs in the prayer: past and future give each other a hand. Who am I? It may also be our prayer. The answering song is an echo of Psalm 132 to this prayer.

After Natan had spoken to David,
king David entered the sanctuary ;
he sat down before the Lord and said :
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house?
that thou hast brought me this far?
“And now all this is not enough for You, Lord God :
Thou speakest also of the future of Thy servant’s house.
“Is this for man to do, Lord God?
“Thou hast established thy people Israel as thy people forever
and Thou, Lord, art their God.
“Therefore, Lord God, keep always the word
that Thou hast spoken to Thy servant
and to his house
and act according to Thy word.

On Care of the Common Home
192. A trajectory of a more creative and better oriented development of production could, for example, correct the disparity between excessive technological investment for consumption and scarce investment for solving the urgent problems of humanity; it could generate sensible and profitable forms of reuse, functional recovery and recycling; it could improve the energy efficiency of cities, and so on. The diversification of production provides the human mind with vast opportunities to create and innovate, while protecting the environment and creating more jobs. This would be a creativity capable of rekindling the nobility of man, because it would be more dignified to use reason with courage and responsibility to find forms of sustainable and equitable development within a broader conception of quality of life. Conversely, it shows less dignity and creativity and more superficiality to continue to create forms of plundering nature just to provide new opportunities for consumption and immediate return.
