Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
In de Kerk verkondigen we niet op ons eentje, maar samen. Wanneer we samen eucharistie vieren, wordt de Kerk telkens opnieuw geboren. Voor Marcus is de geloofsverkondiger geen reclameman die een product aanprijst dat goed verkocht zal worden als het werkt: hij is iemand die strijdbaar vertrekt, die er van overtuigd is dat hij alles kan overwinnen. Hij is geroepen om de wereld beter te maken, rechtvaardiger, broederlijk. Hij moet het menselijk bestaan zinvol maken, hij moet bekeren en genezen: want zijn dat niet de tekenen bij uitstek dat het koninkrijk aanbreekt ? Waar staan wij op die weg ?
EERSTE LEZING I Kon. 2,1-4. 10-12
Ik ga de weg van al het aardse.
Wees sterk, Salomo, en toon dat je een man bent.
Uit het eerste Boek der Koningen
Toen Davids einde naderde,
bond hij zijn zoon Salomo het volgende op het hart :
“Ik ga de weg van al het aardse.
“Wees sterk en toon dat je een man bent.
Bewandel zijn wegen en onderhoud zijn wetten,
geboden, voorschriften en verordeningen,
zoals geschreven staat in de wet van Mozes.
“Dan zul je slagen in alles wat je doet en onderneemt.
“Dan zal de Heer het woord gestand doen
dat Hij tot mij gesproken heeft :
Als uw zonen trouw,
met heel hun hart en heel hun ziel, mijn wegen bewandelen,
dan zal het u nooit ontbreken aan afstammelingen
op de troon van Israël.”
Toen ging David ter ruste bij zijn voorvaderen
en werd begraven in de Davidstad.
Veertig jaar had David over Israël geregeerd ;
te Hebron had hij zeven jaar geregeerd
en te Jeruzalem drieëndertig jaar.
Salomo zetelde op de troon van zijn vader
en zijn koningschap kreeg steeds meer vaste voet.

Al wat bestaat, Heer, richt zich naar uw bevel.
Gij zijt geprezen, Heer, in alle eeuwen,
Gij God van onze vader Israël.
Groot zijt Gij in uw daden, oppermachtig,
verheven, luisterrijk en hoog geëerd.
Want alles in de hemel en op aarde is het uwe,
Gij zijt de koning, Heer, die boven alles staat.
Van U zijn aanzien en bezit afkomstig,
al wat bestaat richt zich naar uw bevel.
Gij kunt beschikken over vaardigheid en krachten,
wat groot en sterk is hebt Gij zo gemaakt.

EVANGELIE Mc. 6, 7-13
Jezus begon de twaalf twee aan twee uit te zenden.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens Marcus
In die tijd
riep Jezus de twaalf bij zich
en begon hen twee aan twee uit te zenden.
Hij gaf hun macht over de onreine geesten
en verbood hun
iets anders mee te nemen voor onderweg dan alleen een stok :
geen voedsel, geen reiszak, geen kopergeld in hun gordel.
“Wel moogt ge sandalen dragen,
maar trekt geen dubbele kleding aan.”
Hij zei verder :
“Als ge ergens een huis binnengaat,
blijft daar tot ge weer afreist.
“En is er een plaats waar men u niet ontvangt
en niet naar u luistert,
gaat daar dan weg
en schudt het stof van uw voeten als een getuigenis tegen hen.”
Zij vertrokken om te prediken dat men zich moest bekeren.
Zij dreven veel duivels uit,
zalfden veel zieken met olie en genazen hen.

Consideration
In the Church we do not preach on our own, but together. When we celebrate the Eucharist together, the Church is born again and again. For Mark, the proclaimer of faith is not an advertising man who praises a product that will sell well if it works: he is someone who starts a struggle, who is convinced that he can overcome anything. He is called to make the world better, more just, more fraternal. He has to make human life meaningful, he has to convert and heal: for are these not the signs par excellence that the Kingdom is at hand? Where do we stand on this road?
FIRST READING I Kings 2,1-4. 10-12
I go the way of all things earthly.
Be strong, Solomon, and show that you are a man.
From the first Book of Kings
When David’s end was near,
he made this plea to his son Solomon:
“I am going the way of all things earthly.
“Be strong and show that you are a man.
Walk in his ways and keep his laws,
commandments, rules and regulations,
as it is written in the law of Moses.
“Then you will succeed in all that you do and undertake.
“Then the Lord will fulfil the word
that He has spoken to me:
If your sons are faithful,
with all their heart and all their soul, walk in my ways,
then you will never lack for descendants
on the throne of Israel.”
Then David went to rest with his forefathers
and was buried in the city of David.
David had reigned over Israel for forty years;
In Hebron he had reigned seven years
and in Jerusalem thirty-three years.
Solomon sat on the throne of his father
and his kingship became more and more established.

All that is, Lord, is at your command.

GOSPEL Mk 6, 7-13
Jesus began to send out the twelve two by two.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark
At that time
Jesus called the twelve to Himself
and began to send them out two by two.
He gave them power over the unclean spirits and
and forbade them
to take anything with them for the journey other than a stick :
No food, no travel bag, no copper money in their belt.
“You may wear sandals,
but do not wear a double garment.”
He went on to say :
“If you enter a house somewhere,
stay there until you leave.
“And if there is a place where they do not receive you
and does not listen to you,
then go away from there
and shake off the dust of your feet as a testimony against them.”
They left to preach repentance.
They cast out many devils,
anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.

199. One cannot claim that the empirical sciences fully explain life, the deepest being of all creatures and the whole of reality. To do so would be to go beyond their methodological limits unduly. If one reflects within this limited framework, aesthetic sensitivity, poetry and even the ability of reason to understand the meaning and purpose of things disappear. I would like to recall that “the classical religious texts can offer a meaning for all times, have a motivating power that constantly opens new horizons (…). Is it reasonable and intelligent to banish them to obscurity just because they were born in a context of religious belief?”. In reality, it is simplistic to think that ethical principles can only be expressed in a purely abstract way, independently of any context, and the fact that they are expressed in a religious language does not take away any value in the public debate. The ethical principles that reason can perceive can sometimes reappear under a different guise and be expressed in different, also religious, terms.
