Uitnodiging
Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Paulus wordt door de omstandigheden genoodzaakt in Korinte te blijven. Hij leeft daar actief mee met de christenen. Ze vieren de eucharistie. Ze voeden elkaars geloof. Ze vieren verbondenheid met elkaar. Ook als onze levenskring beperkt is geworden, hebben wij een zending naar elkaar toe. De mensen rondom ons rekenen op onze geloofsgetuigenis, ook al merken wij dat niet altijd. Wij hoeven niet te zwijgen of ons weg te steken. Integendeel: Wat uitgesproken en beleefd wordt, versterkt. Dat is het werk van Gods Geest!
EERSTE LEZING Hand. 18, 9-18
In deze stad behoren veel mensen Mij toe.
Uit de Handelingen van de Apostelen
Toen Paulus te Korinte verbleef
sprak de Heer in een nachtelijk visioen tot hem :
“Wees niet bevreesd
maar spreek, en zwijg niet.
“Ik ben met u
en niemand zal u aanraken om u kwaad te doen,
want in deze stad behoren veel mensen Mij toe.”
Anderhalf jaar bleef hij daar wonen
terwijl hij bij hen het woord Gods onderwees.
Onder het proconsulaat echter van Gallio in Achaïa
keerden de Joden zich als één man tegen Paulus
en brachten hem voor de rechtbank.
Zij verklaarden :
“Deze man tracht de mensen over te halen
tot onwettige godsverering.”
Paulus wilde juist iets zeggen
toen Gallio de Joden antwoordde:
“Als het ging over een of ander onrecht of ernstig misdrijf, Joden,
zou ik u vanzelfsprekend geduldig aanhoren.
“Maar zijn het twisten over een woord,
over namen en over die Wet van u,
dan moet gij zelf maar zien.
“Daarover wil ik geen rechter zijn.”
Hij joeg ze van zijn rechterstoel weg.
Nu wierpen allen zich op Sóstenes, de overste van de synagoge,
en gaven hem voor de rechterstoel een pak slaag.
Gallio trok er zich niets van aan.
Paulus bleef daar nog vele dagen,
nam toen afscheid van de broeders
en ging in gezelschap van Priscilla en Aquila scheep naar Syrië.
Eerst had hij in Kenchreë zijn hoofdhaar laten afknippen
want hij stond onder gelofte.
TUSSENZANG Ps. 47(46), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7
Koning is God over heel de aarde.

Alle volkeren, klapt in de handen,
jubelt voor God met blij geroep.
Want groot is de Heer en alom geducht,
een machtig vorst over heel de aarde.
Volkeren levert Hij aan ons uit

“Wanneer de vrouw gaat baren is zij bedroefd
omdat haar uur gekomen is ;
maar wanneer zij het kindje ter wereld heeft gebracht
denkt zij niet meer aan de pijn,
van blijdschap dat er een mens ter wereld is gekomen.
“Zo zijt ook gij nu wel bedroefd,
maar wanneer Ik u zal weerzien zal uw hart zich verheugen
en uw vreugde zal niemand u kunnen ontnemen.
“Op die dag zult gij Mij over niets ondervragen.”

Encycliek van
PAUS FRANCISCUS
Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis door Paus Franciscus
64. Anderzijds wil ik, ook al biedt deze Encycliek een opening voor een dialoog met allen om samen te zoeken naar wegen van bevrijding, vanaf het begin laten zien hoe de geloofsovertuigingen de Christenen, en gedeeltelijk ook andere gelovigen, belangrijke motiveringen bieden om de zorg op zich te nemen voor de natuur en de meest broze broeders en zusters. Als alleen al het feit dat wij menselijke wezens zijn, de mensen ertoe beweegt te zorgen voor het milieu waarvan zij een deel zijn, “voelen de Christenen in het bijzonder dat hun taken binnen de schepping en hun plichten ten aanzien van de natuur en de Schepper deel uitmaken van hun geloof”. Daarom is het een weldaad voor de mensheid en de wereld dat wij gelovigen beter de ecologische verplichtingen erkennen die voortvloeien uit onze overtuigingen.

Consideration
Paul is forced by circumstances to stay in Corinth. There he actively participates with the Christians. They celebrate the Eucharist. They nourish each other’s faith. They celebrate solidarity with each other. Even if our circle of life has become limited, we have a mission to each other. The people around us count on our testimony of faith, even if we do not always notice it. We do not have to remain silent or hide away. On the contrary: what is spoken and experienced is strengthened. That is the work of God’s Spirit!
FIRST READING Acts 18, 9-18
In this city many people belong to Me.
From the Acts of the Apostles
When Paul was in Corinth
the Lord spoke to him in a night vision:
“Do not be afraid
but speak, and do not be silent.
“I am with you
and no one will touch you to hurt you,
for in this city many people belong to Me.”
For a year and a half he remained there
while he taught the word of God among them.
But under the proconsulship of Gallio in Achaïa
the Jews turned against Paul as one man
and brought him to trial.
They declared :
“This man is trying to persuade the people
to unlawful divine worship.”
Paul was just about to say something
when Gallio answered the Jews:
“If it were a question of some injustice or serious crime, Jews,
I would, of course, listen to you patiently.
“But are they quarrelling about a word,
over names and over this law of yours,
then you must see for yourself.
“On that I will not be a judge.”
He chased them away from his judgment seat.
Now all threw themselves upon Sóstenes, the ruler of the synagogue,
and beat him up in front of the Judges’ bench.
Gallio did not care.
Paul remained there for many days,
then he said goodbye to the brothers
and, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila, set sail for Syria.
First he had his hair cut off in Kenchreae, for he was under vow.

On the Care of the Common Home by Pope Francis
64. On the other hand, although this Encyclical offers an opening for dialogue with all in order to seek together paths of liberation, I would like to show from the outset how the beliefs offer Christians, and in part other believers, important motivations to take care of nature and the most fragile of brothers and sisters. If the mere fact that we are human beings prompts people to care for the environment of which they are a part, “Christians feel particularly that their tasks within creation and their duties towards nature and the Creator are part of their faith”. 1 Therefore, it is a benefit to humanity and the world that we, as believers, better recognise the ecological obligations that flow from our convictions.
