Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?
Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Jezus vraagt van Jaïrus twee dingen: niet bang zijn en blijven geloven. Wie angstig wordt valt immers terug op zichzelf en rekent enkel op zichzelf. Dat biedt geen heil. Blijven geloven betekent ook als er iets onherroepelijks zoals een sterven gebeurt, toch met God verbonden zijn. De Heer neemt het meisje bij de hand en zegt: ‘Sta op’. Dat woord is tot ieder van ons gericht. Wij worden uitgenodigd ‘in het Verbond met God’ te blijven staan.
EERSTE LEZING Hos. 2, 16.17b-18.21-22
Ik neem u als mijn bruid, voor altijd.
Uit de Profeet Hosea
Zo spreekt de Heer :
“Mijn ontrouwe bruid,
weldra lok Ik haar weer naar Mij toe,
zorg Ik dat zij naar de woestijn gaat
en spreek Ik tot haar hart.
“Daar wordt zij weer gewillig,
zoals in de dagen van haar jeugd
toen zij optrok uit Egypte.
“Op die dag – zo luidt de godsspraak van de Heer –
zult gij tot Mij roepen: Mijn man!
“Nooit roept gij Mij dan meer toe: Mijn Baäl!
“Ik neem u als mijn bruid, voor altijd,
als mijn bruid in recht en gerechtigheid,
in goedheid en erbarming,
als mijn bruid, in onverbrekelijke trouw:
dan zult gij de Heer leren kennen.”
TUSSENZANG Ps. 145(144), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
De Heer is vol liefde en medelijden.
U wil ik prijzen, Heer, iedere dag,
uw Naam verheerlijken voor altijd.
De Heer is groot en alle lof waardig,
zijn grootheid is niet te doorgronden.
Uw daden verhaalt geslacht aan geslacht,
uw macht wordt alom verkondigd.
Men spreekt van uw luister en majesteit,
verspreidt de faam van uw wonderdaden.
Uw huiveringwekkende macht wordt vermeld,
uw grootheid door ieder geprezen.
Zij zingen de lof van uw grote mildheid
en juichen om uw rechtvaardigheid.
De Heer is vol liefde en medelijden,
lankmoedig en zeer goedgunstig.
De Heer is bezorgd voor iedere mens,
barmhartig voor al wat Hij maakte.

EVANGELIE Mt. 9, 18-26
Mijn dochter is zo juist gestorven:
maar kom en zij zal weer levend worden.
Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens
Matteüs
Terwijl Jezus eens tot de menigte sprak
kwam er een overste naar Hem toe,
wierp zich voor Hem neer en zei:
“Mijn dochter is zo juist gestorven:
maar kom haar de hand opleggen
dan zal zij weer levend worden.”
Jezus stond op en ging met hem mee,
vergezeld van zijn leerlingen.
Plotseling naderde Hem van achteren een vrouw
die al twaalf jaar lang aan bloedvloeiingen leed,
en raakte de zoom van zijn mantel aan.
Want ze zei bij zichzelf:
“Als ik alleen maar zijn mantel kan aanraken
zal ik genezen zijn.”
Maar Jezus keerde zich om,
en toen Hij haar zag sprak Hij:
“Heb goede moed dochter,
uw geloof heeft u genezen.”
En vanaf dat ogenblik was de vrouw gezond.
Toen Jezus in het huis van de overste kwam
en de fluitspelers en het misbaar makende volk zag
sprak Hij:
“Gaat heen,
want het meisje is niet gestorven maar slaapt.”
Doch ze lachten Hem uit.
Toen al dat volk buitengezet was,
trad Hij naderbij,
greep haar hand
en het meisje stond op.
Het verhaal hiervan deed de ronde door heel die streek.

Consideration
Jesus asks two things of Jairus: don’t be afraid and keep on believing. Those who become afraid fall back on themselves and count only on themselves. That offers no salvation. To keep on believing means, even if something irrevocable like a death happens, still to be connected with God. The Lord takes the girl by the hand and says: “Get up”. This word is addressed to each and every one of us. We are invited to remain ‘in the covenant with God’.

“My unfaithful bride,
soon I will draw her to me again,
I will make her go to the desert
and I will speak to her heart.

My daughter has just died:

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
While Jesus was speaking to the crowd
a superior came to Him,
threw himself down before Him and said:
“My daughter has just died:
But come and lay hands on her
and she will live again.”
Jesus got up and went with him, accompanied by his disciples.
Suddenly a woman approached Him from behind,
who had been suffering from haemorrhages for twelve years,
and touched the hem of His dressing gown.
For she said to herself:
“If I can only touch His cloak
I will be healed.”
But Jesus turned around,
and when He saw her He said:
“Have good courage daughter,
your faith has healed you.”
And from that moment the woman was healthy.
When Jesus came into the house of the superior
and saw the flute players and the people who were making noise
He said:
“Go ye forth,
for the girl is not dead but sleeps.”
But they laughed at Him.
When all the people were put out,
He drew near,
took her hand
and the girl arose.
The story of this spread through the whole region.

Technology: Creativity and Power
102. Humanity has entered a new era in which the power of technology places us at a crossroads. We are the heirs to two centuries of tremendous waves of change: the steam engine, the railway, the telegraph, electricity, the automobile, the aeroplane, the chemical industries, modern medicine, information technology and, more recently, the digital revolution, robotics, biotechnologies and nanotechnologies. It is right to rejoice in these advances and to be excited by the vast possibilities that these constant innovations open up for us, because “science and technology are a wonderful product of human creativity, which is a gift from God”. 1 The transformation of nature for utilitarian purposes has been a feature of the human race from the beginning, and thus technology “expresses” the tension of the human spirit in gradually overcoming certain material limitations. 2 Technology has combated countless evils that afflicted and limited the human being. We can only appreciate and be grateful for the progress achieved, especially in medicine, technology and communication. And how could we not be grateful for all the efforts of many scientists and technicians who have worked out alternatives for sustainable development?
