Overweging

EERSTE LEZING                  I Kor. 1, 1-9

In Christus zijt gij in ieder opzicht rijk begiftigd.

Want in Christus zijt gij,
naarmate zijn getuigenis bij u ingang vond,
in ieder opzicht rijk begiftigd
terwijl gij vol verwachting uitziet
God is getrouw,
onze Heer Jezus Christus.

TUSSENZANG                 Ps. 145(144), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7

waarop hij het niet verwacht, en op een uur dat hij niet kent ;

Thursday – Saint Louis IX – Saint Joseph Calasanz, pr.

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience this joy by opening his heart
to the healing effect of God’s word.

Available every morning from 7 am

Consideration

In the letter to the Christians of Corinth, we learn first of all that the community of faith in that city is doing well. Paul wishes this community grace and peace. For, in Corinth, people were open to the witness of the gospel. That has created a lively church community. When that happens, we can only be grateful for it and express this gratitude to God.

FIRST READING       I Cor 1:1-9

In Christ you are richly endowed in every respect.

Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Christians of Corinth

From Paul,
called by God’s will to be apostles of Christ Jesus,
and of our brother Sóstenes,
to the church of God at Corinth,
to those who, sanctified in Christ Jesus,
are destined to a holy life,
together with all those who everywhere call on the name
of Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.

Grace and peace to you
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Again and again I thank God for his grace
which is given to you in Christ Jesus.
For in Christ you are,
as his testimony hath been received by you,
richly endowed in every respect
with all the gifts of speech and knowledge.
In this respect ye lack nothing,
as ye wait expectantly
the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He will also make you endure to the end
so that you will not be blamed in the day of our Lord Jesus.
God is faithful,
who hath called you to fellowship with his Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ.

INTERLUDIUM     Ps. 145(144), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7

I will praise you, my God and King,
glorifying your name forever.

I will praise you every day,
glorifying your name forever.
The Lord is great and worthy of all praise,
His greatness is unfathomable.

Your deeds are told from generation to generation,
your power is proclaimed everywhere.
People speak of your splendour and majesty,
spread the fame of thy wondrous deeds.

Thy terrifying power is mentioned,
your greatness is praised by all.
They sing the praises of thy great bounty
and rejoice for your righteousness.

ALLELUIA cf. Lk 8, 15

Alleluia.
Blessed are those who keep the Word of God which they have heard,
in a good and noble heart
and bring forth fruit by their steadfastness.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL         Mt 24, 42-51

Be vigilant!

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

At that time Jesus said to his disciples :
“Be ye therefore vigilant
for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
“Understand this :
If the owner of the house knew
at what hour of the night the thief would come,
he would keep watch and not let his house be broken into.
“Be ye therefore ready also
because the Son of Man is coming at the hour
when ye know not.
“Who then is the faithful and prudent servant,
whom the Lord hath set over his servants
to give them their food in due season?
“Happy is the servant
if the lord find him busy with it on his coming.
“Verily I say unto you :
He will appoint him over all that he possesses.
“But if the servant is bad and says to himself :
“My lord will be away for some time yet,
and he begins to beat the other servants
and eats and drinks with drunkards,
then the lord of that servant will come on a day
when he does not expect it, and at an hour which he does not know ;
and he shall cut him down
and he shall divide him the lot of the hypocrites.
“There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Encyclic of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care of the Common Home

154 Human ecology also implies something very profound: the necessary relationship of human life to the moral law written in its own nature, an indispensable relationship in order to create a more dignified environment. Pope Benedict stated that there is “an ecology of man” because “man too has a nature which must be respected and cannot be manipulated at will”. 4 In this line, one must recognise that our body places us in a direct relationship with the environment and other living beings. Accepting one’s own body as a gift from God is necessary to accepting the whole world as a gift from the Father and common home; by contrast, a logic of dominion over one’s own body turns into a sometimes subtle logic of dominion over creation. Learning to accept one’s own body, to care for it and respect its meanings, is essential to a true human ecology. Likewise, accepting one’s own body in its womanhood or manhood is necessary to be able to recognise oneself in the other who is different. Thus it is possible to accept with joy the specific gift of the other, male or female, as the work of God the Creator, and to enrich each other. Therefore, an attitude that pretends to “do away with sexual difference, because one can no longer compare oneself with oneself” is not healthy.
