Consideration

Love leaves no room for fear, says the first reading. Do not fear says Jesus to the frightened apostles in the storm. This theme binds both readings together. God in Jesus is God with us. His love banishes all fear. This is not about illness or accidents, failure or misfortune. From all these things the believer is not spared. It aat about the deepest thing a human being can speak of: the experience that God loves us beyond death. Those who trust in the Lord and devote themselves to loving Him and neighbour will hear the word of Jesus: “Rest assured. It is I. Do not fear. If God so loves me, what things am I afraid of? What concerns do I worry about? Do I hear the Lord saying to me, ‘fear not’? Do I trust 100 per cent in Jesus ?

FIRST READING                 I John 4, 11-18
When we love one another, God dwells in us.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

If God has loved us so much
we too must love one another.
Never has anyone seen God,
but if we love one another
god dwells in us
and His love has become perfect in us.
This is the proof that we abide in Him
as He abides in us,
that He has made us partakers of His Spirit.
And we, we have seen and we testify
that the Father has sent His Son
to be the Saviour of the world.
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God
god dwells in him
and he dwells in God.
Thus we have come to know the love that God has for us
and we believe in it.
God is love :
He who dwells in love
dwells in God
and God is with him.
Our love is perfect
when we confidently look forward to the day of judgement,
because we live in this world
according to the example of Christ.
Love leaves no room for fear.
Perfect love drives out fear,
for fear indicates punishment
and those who fear are not mature in love.

After the multiplication of bread
jesus immediately forced his disciples
into the boat and sailed already to the other side,
to Bethsaida,
while He would send the people home.
After saying goodbye to them
he went up the mountain to pray.
When evening fell the boat was in the middle of the lake
and He was alone on land.
As He saw that they were straining to move forward
– the wind was against them –
about the fourth watch of the night He came
on foot across the lake towards them ;
and He wanted to pass them by.
But when they saw Him going this way across the lake
they thought it was a ghost and cried out.
For all saw Him and became upset.
But immediately He began to speak to them and told them :
“Be at ease, it is I. Do not fear.”
He climbed into the boat with them and the wind died down.
They became beside themselves with amazement,
for they had not been made aware of what had happened to the loaves
not come to an understanding, but their minds were blinded.

The Trinity and the relationship between creatures
238. The Father is the ultimate source of everything, the loving and
unifying foundation of all that exists. The Son, who reflects Him and
through whom everything was created, connected Himself to this earth when He assumed human form in Mary’s womb. The Spirit, infinite
bond of love, is intimately present in the heart of the universe as He
animates and awakens to new ways. The world was created by the three
Persons of one divine origin, but each of them accomplishes
this common work according to their own personal identity.
Therefore, “we should praise all the Trinity, when we look with
admiration at the universe in its grandeur and beauty”.

Overweging
Op zijn manier zegt de brief van Johanns hetzelfde als de brief van Paulus aan de Romeinen. Het initiatief is bij God. Hij heeft ons eerst liefgehad. In Jezus heeft God die liefde getoond. God heeft zijn Zoon gezonden. In het evangelie zien we Jezus aan het werk. Hij geeft gestalte aan Gods liefde. Liefde gaat uit naar de ander. Zij voelt mededogen, maar ze handelt ook. Jezus onderricht omdat de mensen Gods boodschap niet kennen. Jezus spijzigt hen omdat ze hongerig zijn. Zijn boodschap gaat naar de totale mens: naastenliefde moet ook blijken in daden. Iets om over na te denken, zowel voor mij persoonlijk als voor de gemeenschap waartoe ik behoor.

EERSTE LEZING            I Joh. 4, 7-10

De liefde komt van God.

Uit de eerste brief van de heilige apostel Johannes

Vrienden,

Laten wij elkander liefhebben
want de liefde komt van God.
Iedereen die liefheeft
is een kind van God en kent God.
De mens zonder liefde kent God niet
want God is liefde.
En de liefde die God is
heeft zich onder ons geopenbaard
doordat Hij zijn enige Zoon in de wereld gezonden heeft
om ons het leven te brengen.
Hierin bestaat de liefde :
Niet wij hebben God liefgehad
maar Hij heeft ons liefgehad,
en Hij heeft zijn Zoon gezonden
om door het offer van zijn leven onze zonden uit te wissen.

TUSSENZANG         Ps. 72(71), 2, 3-4ab, 7-8

Hem huldigen alle vorsten der aarde
en alle volkeren dienen Hem.

Mijn God, verleen de koning uw wijsheid,
de koningszoon uw rechtvaardigheid.
Hij moge uw volk rechtvaardig besturen,
uw armen met billijkheid.

Dan stroomt de vrede omlaag van de bergen,
en van de heuvels het recht.

Door de broodvermenigvuldiging
openbaart Jezus zich als profeet.

Marcus

In die tijd zag Jezus een grote menigte.
hij gevoelde medelijden met hen,
want zij waren als schapen zonder herder ;
en Hij begon hen uitvoerig te onderrichten.
Toen het al laat was geworden
kwamen zijn leerlingen naar Hem toe en zeiden :
“Deze plek is eenzaam en het is al laat.
“Stuur hen weg om naar de hoeven en dorpen
in de omtrek te gaan en daar eten te kopen.”
Maar Hij gaf hun ten antwoord :
“Geef gij hun maar te eten.”
Zij zeiden hem daarop :
“Moeten wij dan voor tweehonderd denariën brood gaan kopen
om hun te eten te geven ?”
Hij zei tot hen :
“Hoeveel broden hebt ge ?
“Gaat eens kijken.”
Na zich op de hoogte gesteld te hebben zeiden ze :
“Vijf, en twee vissen.”
Nu gaf Hij hun opdracht te zeggen
dat allen zich groepsgewijze zouden neerzetten op het groene gras.
Zij gingen zitten in groepen van honderd en van vijftig.
Hij nam de vijf broden en twee vissen,
sloeg de ogen ten hemel,
sprak de zegen uit,
brak de broden en gaf ze aan zijn leerlingen
om ze aan de mensen voor te zetten ;
ook de twee vissen verdeelde Hij onder allen.
Allen aten tot zij verzadigd waren.
Men haalde aan brokken en aan wat er aan vis over was
twaalf volle korven op.
Het waren vijfduizend mannen die van de broden gegeten hadden.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis

237. ‘s Zondags heeft deelname aan de eucharistie een bijzonder belang.
Deze dag geldt, evenals de Joodse sabbat, als de dag van het herstel van de
relatie van de mens met God, met zichzelf, met de ander en met de wereld.
De zondag is de dag van de verrijzenis, de “eerste dag” van de nieuwe
schepping, waarvan de verrezen Heer de eersteling is, waarborg van de
uiteindelijke gedaanteverandering van heel de geschapen werkelijkheid.
Bovendien verkondigt deze dag “de eeuwige rust van de mens bij God”.
Op deze wijze brengt de christelijke spiritualiteit de waarde van rust en
feest onder de aandacht. De mens heeft de neiging de contemplatieve rust
als onvruchtbare en nutteloze te beschouwen en vergeet daarbij dat zo aan
het werk dat men verricht, het belangrijkste wordt ontnomen: zijn betekenis.
Wij zijn geroepen in ons handelen een dimensie van ontvankelijkheid
en belangeloosheid in te sluiten, die iets anders is dan eenvoudig niets
doen. Het betreft een andere wijze van handelen, die deel uitmaakt van
ons wezen. Op deze wijze wordt het menselijk handelen niet alleen behoed
voor leeg activisme, maar ook voor ongebreidelde onverzadigbaarheid en
een stil gelegd bewustzijn, dat er toe leidt alleen eigen gewin na te jagen.
De wet van de zondagsrust verplichtte ertoe zich te onthouden van werk
op de zevende dag, want “dan kunnen ook uw rund en uw ezel rusten, en
kunnen de zoon van uw slavin en de vreemdeling op adem komen” (Ex.
23, 12). Rust geeft een verruiming van het blikveld die het mogelijk maakt
weer de rechten van de ander te erkennen. Zo verspreidt de rustdag,
waarvan het middelpunt de eucharistie is, zijn licht over de hele week en
moedigt ons aan de zorg voor de natuur en de armen tot de onze te maken.

Consideración
A su manera, la carta de Juan dice lo mismo que la carta de Pablo a los Romanos. La iniciativa es de Dios. Él nos amó primero. En Jesús, Dios ha mostrado ese amor. Dios ha enviado a su Hijo. En el Evangelio, vemos a Jesús en acción. Él da forma al amor de Dios. El amor sale hacia el otro. Siente compasión, pero también actúa. Jesús enseña porque la gente no conoce el mensaje de Dios. Jesús les da de comer porque tienen hambre. Su mensaje se dirige al ser humano total: la caridad debe mostrarse también en las acciones. Algo en lo que pensar, tanto para mí personalmente como para la comunidad a la que pertenezco.

PRIMERA LECTURA              I Juan 4, 7-10

El amor viene de Dios.

De la primera carta del santo apóstol Juan

Amigos,

Amémonos los unos a los otros
porque el amor viene de Dios.
Todo el que ama
es hijo de Dios y conoce a Dios.
El hombre sin amor no conoce a Dios
porque Dios es amor.
Y el amor que es Dios
se ha manifestado entre nosotros
enviando a su Hijo unigénito al mundo
para traernos la vida.
En esto consiste el amor :
No nosotros hemos amado a Dios
sino que Él nos ha amado
y envió a su Hijo
para borrar nuestros pecados con el sacrificio de su vida.

A él honran todos los príncipes de la tierra
y todas las naciones le sirven.

“Despídelos para que vayan a los cascos y a las aldeas
de los alrededores y compren comida allí”
Pero Él les contestó :
“Sólo dales comida”
Le dijeron entonces :
“¿Debemos entonces ir a comprar pan por doscientos denarios
para darles de comer?”
Él les dijo :
“¿Cuántos panes tenéis?
“Id a ver”
Después de ponerse al corriente, dijeron :
“Cinco, y dos peces”
Ahora les ordenó que dijeran
que todos se sentaran en grupos sobre la hierba verde.
Se sentaron en grupos de cien y de cincuenta.
Tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces,
levantó los ojos al cielo,
pronunció la bendición,
partió los panes y los dio a sus discípulos
para que los presentaran a la gente;
también repartió los dos peces entre todos.
Todos comieron hasta quedar satisfechos.
Recogieron en terrones y lo que sobró de pescado
doce cestas llenas.
Eran cinco mil hombres que habían comido de los panes.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común

237. Los domingos, la participación en la Eucaristía tiene una importancia especial.
Este día, como el sábado judío, cuenta como el día de la restauración de la
relación del hombre con Dios, consigo mismo, con los demás y con el mundo.
El domingo es el día de la resurrección, el “primer día” de la nueva
creación, de la que el Señor resucitado es la primicia
que garantiza la transformación final de toda la realidad creada.
Además, este día proclama “el descanso eterno del hombre con Dios ”
De este modo, la espiritualidad cristiana aporta el valor del descanso y de la
celebración. El hombre tiende a considerar el descanso contemplativo
como infructuoso e inútil, olvidando que así al
el trabajo que uno realiza se le priva de lo más importante: su sentido.
Estamos llamados a incluir en nuestras acciones una dimensión de receptividad
y desinterés, que es diferente de simplemente no hacer nada.
Se trata de una forma diferente de actuar, que forma parte de
nuestro ser. De este modo, la acción humana no sólo se preserva
del activismo vacío, sino también de la insaciabilidad desenfrenada y de
una conciencia silenciada que lleva a perseguir sólo el propio beneficio.
La ley del descanso dominical exigía abstenerse de trabajar
el séptimo día, pues “entonces también descansarán tu buey y tu asno, y
que el hijo de tu esclava y el extranjero recobren el aliento” (Ex.
23, 12). El descanso proporciona una ampliación del campo de visión que permite a uno
volver a reconocer los derechos del otro. Así, el día de descanso, cuyo centro es la Eucaristía,
difunde su luz a lo largo de la semana y
nos anima a hacer nuestro el cuidado de la naturaleza y de los pobres.

Consideration
In its way, Johanns’ letter says the same thing as Paul’s letter to the Romans. The initiative is with God. He first loved us. In Jesus, God has shown that love. God has sent his Son. In the gospel, we see Jesus at work. He gives shape to God’s love. Love goes out to the other. It feels compassion, but it also acts. Jesus teaches because people do not know God’s message. Jesus feeds them because they are hungry. His message goes to the total human being: charity must also be shown in actions. Something to think about, both for me personally and for the community I belong to.

FIRST READING                   I John 4, 7-10

Love comes from God.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

Let us love one another
for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves
is a child of God and knows God.
Man without love does not know God
for God is love.
And the love that is God
has revealed itself among us
in that He sent His only Son into the world
to bring us life.
In this, love consists :
Not we have loved God
but He has loved us,
and He sent His Son
to erase our sins through the sacrifice of His life.

to feed them?”

“Five, and two fishes.”
Now He ordered them to say
that all were to sit down in groups on the green grass.
They sat down in groups of a hundred and of fifty.
He took the five loaves and two fish,
raised his eyes to heaven,
pronounced the blessing,
broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples
to present them to the people ;
he also divided the two fish among everyone.
All ate until they were satisfied.
They collected in lumps and what was left of fish
twelve full baskets.
They were five thousand men who had eaten of the loaves.

On caring for the common home

237. On Sundays, participation in the Eucharist has a special importance.
This day, like the Jewish Sabbath, counts as the day of the restoration of man’s
relationship of man with God, with himself, with others and with the world.
Sunday is the day of resurrection, the “first day” of the new
creation, of which the risen Lord is the firstfruits, guaranteeing the
final transformation of all created reality.
Moreover, this day proclaims “man’s eternal rest with God”.
In this way, Christian spirituality brings the value of rest and
celebration. Man tends to regard contemplative rest
as unfruitful and useless, forgetting that so to
the work one performs is deprived of the most important thing: its meaning.
We are called to include in our actions a dimension of receptivity
and disinterestedness, which is different from simply doing nothing.
It concerns a different way of acting, which is part of
our being. In this way, human action is not only preserved
from empty activism, but also from unbridled insatiability and
a silenced consciousness that leads to pursuing only one’s own gain.
The law of Sunday rest required abstaining from work
on the seventh day, for “then also thy ox and thy ass may rest, and
may the son of thy bondwoman and the stranger catch his breath” (Ex.
23, 12). Rest provides a broadening of the field of vision that allows one to
to recognise again the rights of the other. Thus, the day of rest, whose
centrepiece is the Eucharist, spreads its light throughout the week and
encourages us to make care for nature and the poor our own.

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,

Overweging
God heeft ons lief. Hij heeft ons als eerste liefgehad. Onze liefde  is een echo op zijn liefde, en we worden gevraagd om deze liefde te delen met allen. Maar Gods liefde, die in Jezus openbaar geworden is, ging vooral uit naar de meest verstotenen en de kleinen. Het evangelie noemt ze op: bezetenen, lammen, allen die lijden onder ziekte en pijn. De liefde die Jezus hen betoont, vraagt om een antwoord van ons.ord is immers een woord dat elke dag opnieuw in vervulling moet gaan. Hoe klinkt mijn antwoord in de praktijk?

EERSTE LEZING                    I Joh. 3, 22-4, 6

Onderzoekt de geesten of ze wel van God komen.

Uit de eerste brief van de heilige apostel Johannes 

Vrienden,

Wij krijgen van God alles wat wij vragen
omdat wij zijn geboden onderhouden
en doen wat Hem aangenaam is.
En dit is zijn gebod :
van harte geloven in zijn Zoon Christus
en elkaar liefhebben zoals Hij ons bevolen heeft.
Wie zijn geboden onderhoudt
blijft in God
en God blijft in hem.
En dat Hij in ons woont
weten we door de Geest die Hij ons gegeven heeft.
Vrienden,
vertrouwt niet elke geest.
Onderzoekt de geesten of ze wel van God komen,
want onder hen die tot de wereld zijn uitgegaan
zijn veel valse profeten.
Hieraan onderkent gij de Geest van God :
iedere geest
die belijdt dat Jezus Christus werkelijk mens is geworden
is van God ;
maar iedere geest die Jezus neerhaalt
is niet van God
en dat is de eigenlijke ,antichrist’.
Men heeft u gezegd dat hij komen zou
maar hij is reeds in de wereld, nu al.
Kinderen,
gij hoort bij God
en gij zijt sterker dan de leugenprofeten,
want Hij die u bezielt
is machtiger dan hij die de wereld beheerst.
Zij horen bij de wereld,
daarom ontlenen zij hun leer ook aan de wereld
en luistert de wereld naar hen.
Maar wij horen bij God
en wie God werkelijk kent
luistert naar ons.
Wie niet van God is
weigert naar ons te luisteren.
Zo onderscheiden wij de geest der waarheid
van de geest der dwaling.

TUSSENZANG             Ps. 2, 7-8, 10-11

Ik geef u de volken als erfdeel.

Dit is het besluit van de Heer :
Hij sprak tot mij : gij zijt mijn zoon,
ik heb u heden verwekt.
Vraag Mij, Ik geef u de volken als erfdeel,
schenk u de aarde als eigendom.

Weest nu verstandig, gij vorsten,
heersers der aarde, weet wat gij doet !
Dient de Heer met ontzag,
kust Hem bevend de voeten.

Het volk dat in duisternis zat

Galilea van de heidenen !
“Het volk dat in de duisternis zat
heeft een groot licht aanschouwd ;
en over hen
die in het land van de schaduw van de dood gezeten hebben,
over hen is een licht opgegaan.”
Van toen af begon Jezus te prediken en te zeggen :
“Bekeert u, want het Rijk der hemelen is nabij.”
Jezus trok rond door geheel Galilea,
terwijl Hij als leraar optrad in hun synagogen,
de Blijde Boodschap verkondigde van het Koninkrijk
en alle ziekten en kwalen onder het volk genas.
Zij faam ging uit over geheel Syrië
en men bracht allen tot Hem die er slecht aan toe waren,
die door velerlei ziekten en pijnen gekweld werden,
bezetenen, lijders aan vallende ziekte en lammen.
En Hij genas hen.
Grote volksmenigten uit Galilea en Dekápolis
uit Jeruzalem, Judea en het Overjordaanse
sloten zich bij Hem aan.

Over zorg voor het gemeenschappelijk huis

236. In de eucharistie vindt de schepping haar grootste verheffing. De
genade die zich voelbaar manifesteert, bereikt een verbazingwekkende
uitdrukking, wanneer de mensgeworden God zelf zover gaat dat Hij zich
door zijn schepsel laat eten. De Heer wilde, op het hoogtepunt van het
mysterie van de Menswording, ons via een stuk materie innerlijk bereiken.
Niet van bovenaf, maar van binnenuit, opdat wij Hem zelf in onze wereld
konden ontmoeten. In de eucharistie wordt reeds de volheid verwezenlijkt
en zij is het vitale middelpunt van het heelal, een middelpunt dat overstroomt
van liefde en onuitputtelijk leven. Verenigd met de mensgeworden
Zoon, die tegenwoordig is in de eucharistie , brengt heel de kosmos dank
aan God. De eucharistie is inderdaad in zichzelf een daad van kosmische
liefde: “Ja, kosmisch! Want zelfs als de eucharistie wordt gevierd aan het
kleine altaar van een dorpskerk, wordt zij in zekere zin altijd gevierd op
het altaar van de wereld”. De eucharistie verenigt hemel en aarde,
omarmt en doordringt heel de schepping. De wereld, die uit Gods handen
is voortgekomen, keert in vreugdevolle en volledige aanbidding naar Hem
terug: in het eucharistisch brood “is de schepping gericht op de vergoddelijking, de heilige bruiloft, de eenmaking met de Schepper zelf”. Daarom
is de eucharistie ook een bron van licht en motivatie voor onze zorg voor
het milieu en geeft ons richting om bewakers van heel de schepping te
zijn.

Me permito llamar su atención sobre
la lectura diaria del Evangelio

Esta invitación quiere compartir contigo la alegría
del Evangelio. Todos, sin excepción,
puede experimentar esa alegría abriendo su corazón
al poder sanador de la palabra de Dios.

Disponible todos los días.

Consideración
Dios nos ama. Él nos ha amado primero. Nuestro amor se hace eco de su amor, y se nos pide que compartamos este amor con todos. Pero el amor de Dios, manifestado en Jesús, se dirigió especialmente a los más marginados y a los más pequeños. El Evangelio los enumera: los endemoniados, los cojos, todos los que sufren enfermedades y dolores. El amor que Jesús les muestra exige una respuesta por nuestra parte. Su palabra es, al fin y al cabo, una palabra que hay que cumplir cada día. ¿Cómo es mi respuesta en la práctica?

PRIMERA LECTURA               I Juan 3, 22-4, 6

Examina los espíritus para ver si proceden de Dios.

De la primera carta del santo apóstol Juan

Amigos,

Recibimos de Dios todo lo que pedimos
porque guardamos sus mandamientos
y hacemos lo que le agrada.
Y este es su mandamiento
creer de todo corazón en su Hijo Cristo
y amarnos unos a otros como Él nos ha mandado.
Quien guarda sus mandamientos
permanece en Dios
y Dios permanece en él.
Y que Él habita en nosotros
lo sabemos por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.
Amigos,
no se fíen de cualquier espíritu.
Examinad los espíritus si vienen de Dios,
porque entre los que han salido por el mundo
hay muchos falsos profetas.
En esto reconocéis el Espíritu de Dios :
todo espíritu
que confiesa que Jesucristo verdaderamente se hizo hombre
es de Dios ;
pero todo espíritu que derriba a Jesús
no es de Dios
y ese es el verdadero “anticristo”.
Se os ha dicho que vendría
pero él ya está en el mundo, ya ahora.
Hijos,
ustedes pertenecen a Dios
y sois más fuertes que los profetas mentirosos,
porque Aquel que os inspira
es más poderoso que el que controla el mundo.
Ellos pertenecen al mundo,
por lo tanto también derivan sus enseñanzas del mundo
y el mundo les escucha.
Pero nosotros pertenecemos a Dios
y los que realmente conocen a Dios
nos escuchan.
Los que no pertenecen a Dios
se niega a escucharnos.
Así discernimos el espíritu de la verdad
del espíritu del error.

Te doy en herencia las naciones.

El reino de los cielos está cerca.

Del santo evangelio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo según
Mateo

Cuando Jesús supo que Juan había sido capturado
huyó a Galilea.
Sin embargo, pasando por Nazaret
se estableció en Cafarnaún, a orillas del lago
en la región fronteriza de Zabulón y Neftalí,
para que se cumpliera la palabra del profeta Isaías:
“Tierra de Zabulón, tierra de Naftalí ,
junto al mar, sobre Jordania:
Galilea de los gentiles
“El pueblo que estaba en tinieblas
vio una gran luz;
y sobre los
sentados en tierra de sombra de muerte ,
sobre ellos se ha levantado una luz”
A partir de entonces, Jesús comenzó a predicar y a decir :
“Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca”
Jesús recorrió toda Galilea,
actuando como maestro en sus sinagogas,
predicando la Buena Nueva del Reino
y curaba todas las enfermedades y dolencias entre la gente.
Su fama se extendió por toda Siria
y le llevaban a todos los que estaban mal
que estaban aquejados de muchas enfermedades y dolores,
los endemoniados, los que sufrían de caídas y los cojos.
Y Él los curaba.
Grandes multitudes de Galilea y Dekápolis
de Jerusalén, de Judea y de Overjordania
se le unieron.

236. En la Eucaristía, la creación encuentra su mayor exaltación. La
gracia manifestada palpablemente alcanza una
expresión, cuando el mismo Dios encarnado llega a dejarse
ser comido por su criatura. El Señor, en el culmen del
misterio de la Encarnación, para llegar a nosotros interiormente a través
de un trozo de materia. No desde arriba, sino desde dentro, para que
nosotros mismos pudiéramos encontrarnos con Él en nuestro mundo.
En la Eucaristía se realiza ya la plenitud y ella es el centro vital del universo,
un centro rebosante de amor y de vida inagotable. Unida al Hijo encarnado,
presente en la Eucaristía, todo el cosmos da gracias
a Dios. En efecto, la Eucaristía es en sí misma un acto de amor cósmico: “¡Sí, cósmico! Porque aunque la Eucaristía se celebre en el
pequeño altar de una iglesia de pueblo, en cierto sentido siempre se celebra en
la Eucaristía une el cielo y la tierra,
abraza e impregna toda la creación. El mundo, que ha salido de las manos de Dios ha surgido, vuelve a Él en adoración gozosa y plena
retorno: en el pan eucarístico “la creación se orienta hacia la deificación, las bodas santas, la unificación con el Creador mismo”. Por eso
la Eucaristía es también fuente de luz y motivación para nuestra preocupación por el medio ambiente y nos orienta para ser custodios de toda la creación.

can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Considerations
God loves us. He has loved us first. Our love echoes his love, and we are asked to share this love with all. But God’s love, manifested in Jesus, went out especially to the most outcast and the little ones. The gospel lists them: the possessed, the lame, all those suffering from illness and pain. The love Jesus shows them demands a response from us.ord is, after all, a word to be fulfilled every day. How does my response sound in practice?

FIRST READING                  I John 3, 22-4, 6

Examine the spirits whether they are from God.

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

We receive from God all that we ask
because we keep His commandments
and do what is pleasing to Him.
And this is His commandment :
to believe wholeheartedly in his Son Christ
and loving one another as He has commanded us.
Whoever keeps his commandments
abides in God
and God abides in him.
And that He dwells in us
we know by the Spirit He has given us.
Friends,
do not trust every spirit.
Examine the spirits whether they come from God,
for among those who have gone out into the world
are many false prophets.
By this you recognise the Spirit of God :
every spirit
who confesses that Jesus Christ truly became man
is of God ;
but every spirit that casts down Jesus
is not of God
and that is the actual ,antichrist’.
You have been told that he would come
but he is already in the world, already now.
Children,
you belong to God
and ye are stronger than the lying prophets,
for He who inspires you
is mightier than he who controls the world.
They belong to the world,
therefore they also derive their teachings from the world
and the world listens to them.
But we belong to God
and those who really know God
listens to us.
Those who do not belong to God
refuses to listen to us.
Thus we discern the spirit of truth
from the spirit of error.

The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

When Jesus learned that John had been captured,
he fled to Galilee.
However, passing by Nazareth
he settled in Capernaum, on the shore of the lake,
in the border region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
that the word of the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“Land of Zebulon, land of Naftali ,
lying by the sea, Overjordan :
Galilee of the Gentiles !
“The people who sat in darkness
beheld a great light ;
and over those
who sat in the land of the shadow of death ,
over them a light has risen.”
From then on, Jesus began preaching and saying :
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Jesus went around all over Galilee,
acting as a teacher in their synagogues,
preaching the Good News of the Kingdom
and cured all diseases and ailments among the people.
His fame went out over all Syria
and they brought to Him all who were in a bad state,
who were afflicted with many diseases and pains,
the possessed, those suffering from falling sickness and the lame.
And He healed them.
Great crowds from Galilee and Dekápolis
from Jerusalem, Judea and the Overjordan
joined Him.

236. In the Eucharist, creation finds its greatest exaltation. The
grace palpably manifested reaches an astonishing
expression, when the incarnate God Himself goes so far as to allow Himself to be eaten by His creature. The Lord, at the height of the
mystery of the Incarnation, to reach us inwardly through a piece of matter.
Not from above, but from within, so that we ourselves
could meet Him in our world. In the Eucharist the fullness is already realised
and she is the vital centre of the universe, a centre overflowing
of love and inexhaustible life. United with the incarnate
Son, who is present in the Eucharist , all the cosmos gives thanks
to God. Indeed, the Eucharist is in itself an act of cosmic
love: “Yes, cosmic! For even if the Eucharist is celebrated at the
small altar of a village church, in a sense it is always celebrated at
the altar of the world”. The Eucharist unites heaven and earth,
embraces and permeates all creation. The world, which has emerged from God’s hands has come forth, returns to Him in joyful and full adoration:
in the Eucharistic bread “creation is directed towards deification, the holy wedding, unification with the Creator Himself”.That is why
the Eucharist is also a source of light and motivation for our concern for
the environment and gives us direction to be custodians of all creation.
