Me permito llamar su atención sobre
la lectura diaria del Evangelio

Esta invitación quiere compartir contigo la alegría
del Evangelio. Todos, sin excepción,
puede experimentar esa alegría abriendo su corazón
al poder sanador de la palabra de Dios.

Consideración
Hoy tenemos el famoso discurso en el Areópago.
Pablo deambula solo por Atenas, vigilando a sus compañeros. Lo que ve despierta su ira. Aborrece la religiosidad pagana. Dios no habita en templos hechos por el hombre (versículo 2a); Dios no pide ser cuidado por manos humanas (versículo 25 sacrificios); Dios no puede ser representado en imágenes hechas por el hombre (versículo 29). Sin embargo, en todo ello encuentra un punto de partida para hablar del Dios verdadero. Su búsqueda es positiva. Su aparición no es ciertamente un éxito entre los atenienses. La creencia en la resurrección, en particular, les ofende, y su última observación pretende ser una burla más que una expresión de interés.

PRIMERA LECTURA           Hechos 17.15.22-18.
Lo que vosotros adoráis sin saberlo, yo vengo a anunciároslo.

De los Hechos de los Apóstoles

Aquel día, los compañeros de Pablo lo llevaron hasta Atenas
y partieron con el mensaje para Silas y Timoteo
que se reunieran con él lo antes posible.
Llegada a Atenas
pablo se paró en medio del Areópago
y tomó la palabra:
“Hombres de Atenas,
veo por todo el temor que tenéis por los seres superiores.
“Porque mientras caminaba y miraba lo que ustedes adoran
incluso descubrí un altar con la inscripción :
A un dios desconocido.
“Pues bien,
lo que adoráis sin saber
eso vengo a proclamarte.
“El Dios que hizo el mundo y todo lo que hay en él,
no habita en templos hechos por manos humanas.
“Ni es cuidado por manos humanas
como si Él necesitara de alguien
porque Él mismo da vida y aliento a todo,
sí, a todo.
“A toda la raza humana Él la hizo surgir de una,
para habitar toda la superficie de la tierra,
por lo que estableció las estaciones
y los límites de su habitación;
y que buscaran a Dios,
si podían encontrarlo a tientas.
“Porque Él no está lejos de cada uno de nosotros.
“Porque por Él tenemos vida ,
el movimiento y el ser;
como algunos de vuestros poetas han dicho:
Porque somos de su generación.
“Si, por lo tanto, pertenecemos al linaje de Dios ,
no debemos pensar
que lo divino se asemeje al oro o a la plata o a la piedra
a un producto de la habilidad y el ingenio humanos.
“Sin tener en cuenta aquellos tiempos de ignorancia ,
que Dios traiga ahora a los hombres el mensaje
de que deben arrepentirse todos y en todas partes.
“Porque Él ha señalado un día
en el que va a juzgar al mundo según la justicia
por un hombre que Él ha designado para ese fin.
“A todos dio la prueba de ello
resucitándole de entre los muertos”

Pero cuando oyeron hablar de la resurrección de los muertos..
algunos se burlaron de ella
mientras otros decían :
“Ya oiremos hablar de eso en otra ocasión”
Así Pablo se alejó de ellos.
Sin embargo, algunos se unieron a él
y llegaron a la fe,
incluyendo a Dionisio el Areopagita
y una mujer llamada Dámaris
y otros.
Después de esto, Pablo dejó Atenas y llegó a Corinto.

“Él me glorificará porque os anunciará
lo que ha recibido de Mí.
“He dicho que os anunciará
lo que ha recibido de Mí
porque todo lo que tiene el Padre es Mío”

Consideration
Today we have the famous speech on the Areopagus.
Paul wanders alone in Athens, watching over his companions. What he sees arouses his wrath. He abhors pagan religiosity. God does not dwell in man-made temples (verse 2a); God does not ask to be cared for by human hands (verse 25 sacrifices); God cannot be depicted in man-made images (verse 29). Yet in all this he finds a starting point for speaking about the true God. Their search is positive. His appearance is certainly not a success with the Athenians. The resurrection belief in particular gives offence, and their last remark is meant to be mocking rather than an expression of interest.

FIRST READING          Acts 17.15.22-18.1

What you worship without knowing it I come to proclaim to you.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In that day Paul’s companions took him away as far as Athens
and left with the message for Silas and Timothy
to rejoin him as soon as possible.
Arriving in Athens
paul stood in the middle of the Areópagus
and took the floor :
“Men of Athens,
i see by everything how much awe ye have for higher beings.
“For as I walked around and looked at what you worship
i even discovered an altar with the inscription :
To an unknown god.
“Well,
what you worship without knowing
that I come to proclaim to thee.
“The God who made the world and all that is in it,
dwells not in temples made by hands.
“Nor is He cared for by human hands
as if He needed anyone,
for He Himself gives life and breath to every,
yes everything.
“All the human race He caused to arise from one,
to inhabit the whole surface of the earth,
whereby He established the seasons
and the boundaries of their habitation ;
and to seek God,
whether they might find Him by groping.
“For He is not far from every one of us.
“For through Him we have life ,
moving and being ;
as some of your own poets have said :
For we are of His generation.
“If, therefore, we belong to God’s lineage ,
we must not think
that the divine would resemble gold or silver or stone,
to a product of human skill and ingenuity.
“Without regard to those times of ignorance ,
let God now bring to men the message
that they must repent all and everywhere.
“For He has appointed a day,
in which He is going to judge the world according to justice
by a man whom He has appointed for that purpose.

But when they heard of the resurrection of the dead
some scoffed at it
while others said :
“We will hear about that on occasion.”
Thus Paul went away from them.
Yet some joined him
and came to faith,
including Dionysius the Areopagite

and others.
After this, Paul left Athens and came to Corinth.

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging
Na de aangename ervaringen in Filippi volgen nu de zware beproevingen die Paulus er met zijn gezellen ondergaat en waarnaar hij later in brieven zal verwijzen. Er is iets zeer merkwaardigs in de Handelingen. De catechese gaat vanzelfsprekend het doopsel vooraf, cfr. de Ethiopiër, Cornelius, Lydia, de gevangenisbewaker, maar deze catechese lijkt vaak vrij summier. Ze beperkt zich dan tot de kern van de boodschap (kerygma): geloven in Jezus (de verrezene) die ons redt. In de latere eeuwen zullen de catechumenen een lange voorbereiding moeten doormaken om in de paasnacht gedoopt te worden.

EERSTE  LEZING                       Hand. 16, 22-34
Geloof in de Heer Jezus, dan zult gij en uw huis gered worden.

In die dagen liep het volk van Filippi
tegen Paulus en Silas te hoop,
waarop de magistraten bevel gaven
hun de kleren van het lijf te rukken
en hen met roeden te geselen.
Nadat men hun een flink aantal slagen had toegediend
wierp men hen in de gevangenis
en gaf opdracht aan de gevangenbewaarder
ze streng te bewaken.
Op dit nadrukkelijk bevel
zette deze hen in de binnenste kerker
en sloot hun voeten in het blok.
Rond middernacht
waren Paulus en Silas in gebed en zongen Gods lof
terwijl de gevangenen naar hen luisterden.
Plotseling kwam er een zo hevige schok
dat de gevangenis beefde op haar fundamenten.
Meteen vlogen alle deuren open
en sprongen de boeien van alle gevangenen los.
De gevangenbewaarder schrok wakker,
en toen hij zag dat de deuren van de gevangenis open stonden
trok hij zijn zwaard
en wilde zelfmoord plegen,
omdat hij dacht dat de gevangenen ontsnapt waren.
Maar Paulus riep met luide stem:
“Doe uzelf geen kwaad,
we zijn allen nog hier.”
De man vroeg nu om licht,
snelde naar binnen
en viel sidderend Paulus en Silas te voet.
Hij leidde hen naar buiten en zei:
“Heren, wat moet ik doen om gered te worden?”
Zij antwoordden:
“Geloof in de Heer Jezus,
dan zult gij en uw huis gered worden.”
Daarop verkondigden zij het woord des Heren
aan hem en al zijn huisgenoten.
Nog in dat nachtelijke uur nam hij hen mee
en hij waste hun wonden.
Terstond daarna werd hij met al de zijnen gedoopt.
Hij bracht ze naar zijn woning,
en zette hun een maaltijd voor,
verheugd omdat hij met heel zijn gezin nu in God geloofde.

Steeds is uw uitgestrekte hand mijn redding, Heer.

Over de zorg voor het gemeenschappelijke huis

Niets op deze wereld laat ons onverschillig
3. Meer dan vijftig jaar geleden, toen de wereld op de rand van een
atoomcrisis balanceerde, schreef de heilige paus Johannes XXIII een
encycliek waarmee hij zich niet alleen ertoe beperkte de oorlog af te
wijzen, maar ook een vredesvoorstel wilde doen. Hij richtte zijn boodschap
Pacem in terris tot heel de “katholieke wereld”, maar voegde daaraan nog
toe “en aan alle mensen van goede wil”. Nu wil ik mij ten overstaan van
de wereldwijde aantasting van het milieu tot iedereen richten die deze
planeet bewoont. In mijn apostolische exhortatie Evangelii gaudium heb ik
aan de leden van de Kerk geschreven om een proces van hervorming op
gang te brengen dat nog moet worden voltooid. In deze encycliek stel ik
mij ten doel met allen in dialoog te treden betreffende ons gemeenschappelijke huis.

Tras las agradables experiencias vividas en Filipos, se suceden ahora las duras pruebas que Pablo sufre allí con sus compañeros y a las que se referirá más tarde en las cartas. Hay algo muy curioso en los Hechos. La catequesis precede evidentemente al bautismo (cf. el etíope, Cornelio, Lidia, el carcelero), pero esta catequesis parece a menudo bastante breve. Se limita entonces al mensaje central (kerigma): creer en Jesús (el resucitado) que nos salva. En los siglos posteriores, los catecúmenos tendrán que pasar por una larga preparación para ser bautizados en la Vigilia Pascual.

PRIMERA LECTURA           Hch 16,22-34
Cree en el Señor Jesús, entonces te salvarás tú y tu casa.

En aquellos días la gente de Filipos
contra Pablo y Silas,
por lo que los magistrados dieron órdenes
de arrancarles la ropa
y azotarlos con varas.
Después de darles bastantes golpes
los metieron en la cárcel
y ordenaron al carcelero
que los vigilara estrictamente.
A esta orden expresa
el carcelero los metió en el calabozo interior
y encerró sus pies en el bloque.
Hacia medianoche
Pablo y Silas estaban en oración y cantando alabanzas a Dios
mientras los presos los escuchaban.
De repente se produjo una sacudida tan violenta
que la prisión tembló sobre sus cimientos.
Inmediatamente todas las puertas se abrieron de golpe
y los grilletes de todos los presos se soltaron.
El carcelero se despertó sobresaltado,
y cuando vio que las puertas de la prisión estaban abiertas
sacó su espada
y quiso suicidarse,
porque pensó que los prisioneros se habían escapado.
Pero Pablo gritó en alta voz:
“No os hagáis daño,
todavía estamos todos aquí”
El hombre pidió ahora luz,
se apresuró a entrar
y tembloroso cayó a los pies de Pablo y Silas.
Los condujo fuera y dijo:
“Señores, ¿qué debo hacer para salvarme?”
Ellos respondieron:
“Cree en el Señor Jesús,
y tú y tu casa os salvaréis”
Entonces le anunciaron la palabra del Señor
a él y a todos los de su casa.
Todavía en aquella hora de la noche se los llevó
y les lavó las heridas.
Inmediatamente después, él y todos sus compañeros fueron bautizados.
Los llevó a su morada
y les sirvió una comida,
regocijándose porque él y toda su familia ahora creían en Dios.

Sobre el cuidado de la casa común

Nada en este mundo nos deja indiferentes
3. Hace más de 50 años, cuando el mundo estaba al borde de una
crisis atómica, el santo Papa Juan XXIII escribió una
encíclica con la que no sólo se limitaba a rechazar la guerra,
sino que también pretendía hacer una propuesta de paz. Dirigió su mensaje
Pacem in terris a todo el “mundo católico”, pero añadió
“y a todos los hombres de buena voluntad”. Ahora, ante
degradación global del medio ambiente, quiero dirigirme a todos los que habitan este
planeta. En mi exhortación apostólica Evangelii gaudium, he
escrito a los miembros de la Iglesia para iniciar un proceso de reforma
que aún no ha concluido. En esta encíclica, establezco
mi objetivo de entablar un diálogo con todos sobre nuestra casa común.

Consideration
After the pleasant experiences in Philippi, there now follow the severe trials that Paul undergoes there with his companions and to which he will later refer in letters. There is something very curious in Acts. Catechesis obviously precedes baptism, cf. the Ethiopian, Cornelius, Lydia, the prison guard, but this catechesis often seems rather brief. It then limits itself to the core message (kerygma): believing in Jesus (the risen one) who saves us. In the later centuries, catechumens will have to go through a long preparation to be baptised at the Easter Vigil.

FIRST READING            Acts 16:22-34
Believe in the Lord Jesus, then you and your house will be saved.

In those days the people of Philippi
against Paul and Silas,
whereupon the magistrates gave orders
to tear off their clothes
and to scourge them with rods.
After giving them quite a few blows
they threw them into prison
and ordered the jailer
to guard them strictly.
At this express command
the jailer put them in the inner dungeon
and locked their feet in the block.
Around midnight
paul and Silas were in prayer and singing God’s praises
while the prisoners listened to them.
Suddenly there came a shock so violent
that the prison trembled on its foundations.
Immediately all the doors flew open
and the shackles of all the prisoners sprang free.
The jailer was startled awake,
and when he saw that the prison doors were open
he drew his sword
and wanted to commit suicide,
because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
But Paul cried out in a loud voice:
“Do not harm yourselves,
we are all still here.”
The man now asked for light,
rushed inside
and shudderingly fell at Paul and Silas’ feet.
He led them out and said:
“Gentlemen, what must I do to be saved?”
They replied:
“Believe in the Lord Jesus ,
then you and your house will be saved.”
Thereupon they proclaimed the word of the Lord
to him and all his household members.
Still in that night hour he took them away
and he washed their wounds.
Immediately afterwards, he and all his companions were baptised.
He brought them to his dwelling,
and served them a meal,
rejoicing because he and all his family now believed in God.

atomic crisis, the saintly Pope John XXIII wrote an
encyclical by which he not only limited himself to rejecting war
reject war, but also sought to make a peace proposal. He addressed his message
Pacem in terris to all the “Catholic world”, but added
“and to all people of good will”. Now, in the face of
the global degradation of the environment, I want to address everyone who inhabits this
planet. In my apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium, I have
written to the members of the Church to initiate a process of reform
that has yet to be completed. In this encyclical, I set

Mag ik hierbij uw aandacht vestigen op
de dagelijkse lezing van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil de vreugde
van het Evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door hun harten te openen
voor de helende kracht van Gods woord.

Overweging
Paulus komt met zijn metgezellen aan in Filippi, een belangrijke stad en Romeinse kolonie. Daar ontvangt hij gastvrijheid van Lydia. Aan Filippi heeft Paulus, ondanks veel tegenwerking (zie morgen), de beste herinneringen. Zijn brief aan de gemeente van Filippi bevat niet de gebruikelijke en soms scherpe terechtwijzingen (vgl. 1 en 2 Kor.) maar loopt over van waardering en sympathie. Alleen van de Filippenzen wilde hij geldelijke steun ontvangen in zijn nood.

EERSTE LEZING   Handelingen 16:11-15
De Heer maakt het hart van een godvrezende vrouw ontvankelijk voor wat Paulus zei.

Wij – Paulus en Silas –
zeilden van Troas en gingen eerst naar Samotrake,
de volgende dag naar Neapolis
en vervolgens naar Filippi,
een stad in het eerste district van Macedonië en een kolonie.
In die stad bleven we enkele dagen.
Op de sabbat gingen we buiten de poort
naar de rivieroever, waar we dachten dat er een gebedsplaats was.
We gingen zitten
en spraken de vrouwen aan die daar verzameld waren.
Een zekere Lydia luisterde ook,
die uit de stad Tyatira kwam

Ze was een godvrezende

nodigde ze ons uit en zei:
“Als jullie van mening zijn
dat ik echt in de Heer geloof ,
kom dan in mijn huis
en ga daar wonen.”
En ze drong er bij ons sterk op aan.

2. Deze zuster protesteert tegen de schade die wij haar berokkenen, door
het onverantwoorde gebruik en misbruik van de goederen die God
in haar heeft gestopt. We zijn opgegroeid met het idee dat we haar eigenaar
en heer waren, gemachtigd om haar te plunderen. Het geweld dat in het
door de zonde verwonde hart van de mens is ook zichtbaar in
de ziektesymptomen die we waarnemen in de bodem, het water, de lucht en de levende wezens
wezens. Daarom is onze verdrukte en verwoeste
aarde, die “kreunt en barensweeën heeft” (Rom. 8:22), tot de meest verlaten
verlaten en slecht behandelde armen. We vergeten dat we zelf gemaakt zijn van
aarde (vgl. Gen. 2:7). Ons lichaam zelf is gevormd door de

Consideración
Pablo llega con sus compañeros a Filipos, ciudad importante y colonia romana. Allí recibe la hospitalidad de Lidia. De Filipos, a pesar de las muchas oposiciones (véase mañana), Pablo guarda los mejores recuerdos. Su carta a la iglesia de Filipos no contiene las habituales y a veces agudas reprimendas (cf. 1 y 2 cor.), sino que rebosa aprecio y simpatía. Sólo de los filipenses quería recibir ayuda monetaria en su angustia.

2. Esta hermana protesta por el daño que le estamos causando, a causa de
el uso y abuso irresponsable de los bienes que Dios ha
ha puesto en ella. Crecimos pensando que éramos su dueño
y señor, autorizados a saquearla. La violencia que entró en el
corazón herido por el pecado del hombre se manifiesta también en
los síntomas de enfermedad que percibimos en el suelo, el agua,
el aire y los seres vivos seres vivos. Por eso, nuestra oprimida y devastada
tierra, que “gime y sufre dolores de parto” (Rom. 8:22), se encuentra
entre los más abandonados pobres abandonados y maltratados.

Consideration
Paul arrives with his companions in Philippi, an important city and Roman colony. There he receives hospitality from Lydia. To Philippi, despite many opposition (see tomorrow), Paul has the best memories. His letter to the church of Philippi does not have the usual and sometimes sharp reprimands (cf. 1 and 2 cor.) but overflows with appreciation and sympathy. Only from the Philippians did he want to receive monetary support in his distress.

2. This sister protests for the damage we are causing her, because of
the irresponsible use and abuse of the goods that God has
has put in her. We grew up thinking that we were her owner
and lord, authorised to plunder her. The violence that went into the
sin-wounded heart of man is also evident in
the symptoms of disease we perceive in the soil, water, air and living
creatures. Therefore, our oppressed and devastated
earth, which “groans and suffers travail” (Rom. 8:22), is among the most abandoned

EERSTE LEZING             Hand. 15,1-2.22-29

1. “Wees geprezen, mijn Heer”, zong de heilige Franciscus van Assisi. In
dit mooie loflied herinnerde hij ons eraan dat ons gemeenschappelijke huis
als het ware een zuster is met wie wij het bestaan delen, en als een mooie
moeder die ons in haar armen neemt: “Wees geprezen, mijn Heer, om onze
zuster aarde, die ons voedt en leidt en verscheidene vruchten voortbrengt
met kleurrijke bloemen en kruiden”.

en el espíritu a una montaña muy alta
y me mostró la ciudad santa, Jerusalén,
mientras descendía del cielo de Dios,
radiante con la gloria de Dios:
resplandecía como la piedra más preciosa
y como jaspe cristalino.
La Ciudad
estaba rodeada de una muralla muy alta con doce puertas
y en las puertas había doce ángeles:
en ellas estaban inscritos los nombres
los nombres de las doce tribus de Israel.
Había tres puertas al este, tres al norte,
tres al sur y tres al oeste.
Y el muro de la ciudad tenía doce piedras de cimentación
y sobre ellas estaban los doce nombres
de los doce apóstoles del Cordero.
Pero templo no vi allí
porque Dios, el Señor, el Todopoderoso es su templo
como lo es también el Cordero.
Y la Ciudad no necesita la luz del sol y de la luna
porque la gloria de Dios la ilumina
y su lámpara es el Cordero.

Si alguien me ama, guardará mi palabra;
mi Padre lo amará
y Nosotros vendremos a él.

EVANGELIO                 Jn 14,23-29
El Espíritu Santo os recordará todo lo que os he dicho.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
“Si alguno me ama
guardará mi palabra
mi Padre lo amará
y vendremos a él y nos quedaremos a vivir con él.
El que no me ama
no guarda Mis palabras;
y la palabra que oís no viene de Mí
sino del Padre que me ha enviado.
Esto os digo mientras estoy con vosotros,
pero el Consolador,
el Espíritu Santo que el Padre enviará en Mi Nombre,
Él os lo enseñará todo
y os recordará todo lo que Yo os he dicho.
La paz os dejo
mi paz os doy.
No como la da el mundo, Yo os la doy.
No se turbe ni se humille tu corazón.
Me has oído decir:
Me voy, pero vuelvo a ti.
Si me amaras
te alegrarías de que me vaya al Padre
porque el Padre es más grande que yo.
Ahora, antes de que suceda, os digo
para que cuando suceda creáis”

Alabado sea mi Señor
1. “Alabado sea mi Señor”, cantaba San Francisco de Asís. En
este bello himno, nos recordaba que nuestra casa común
es como una hermana con la que compartimos la existencia, y como una hermosa
madre que nos acoge en sus brazos: “Alabada seas, Señor mío, por
nuestra hermana la tierra, que nos nutre y nos guía y nos da muchos frutos
con coloridas flores y hierbas”.
